Opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced Property Accountant to join our accounting team. This role will collaborate with our management teams, prepare billings, and track expenses, as well as prepare monthly financial reporting for management. This position will also have primary responsibility for the overall accounting and monthly closing cycle for the properties we manage.
Responsibilities:

  1. Tracking tenant activity through communication with property manager
  2. Posting of monthly rent rolls and vacancies
  3. Charging other miscellaneous charges to tenants identifying and recording receipts for designated properties
  4. Distributing receivable reports
  5. Producing late rent letters when needed
  6. Identifying and recording invoices to the correct properties
  7. Handling vendor inquiries
  8. Writing checks for payment of invoices
  9. Process and record all deposits and payments
  10. Reconcile and manage all cash accounts
  11. Setting up new bank accounts when needed Cash flow projections and management
  12. Demonstrate the ability to post, analyze and resolve general ledger transactions
  13. Ensure accurate and timely preparation and distribution of the properties internal and external financial reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and practices
  14. Coordinate financial statements, outside reporting requirements, audit activities, and other informational reports and requests.
  15. Assist in preparation of budgets in coordination with Area Managers Meet Audit/Tax preparation deadlines at year end
  16. Special projects as assigned
  17. Record all transactions into accounting program
  18. Develop a thorough understanding of all modules within the software program
  19. Demonstrate the ability to handle administrative duties. Demonstrate the ability to write appropriate correspondence.
  20. Demonstrate the ability to work independently, to organize work, to establish priorities, to follow defined procedures, and to follow through in the completion of tasks to meet established deadlines.
  21. Demonstrate the ability to interact effectively and in a businesslike manner with other staff, residents, service workers, and others.
  22. Demonstrate the knowledge and the ability to use computers and related software including Yardi, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  23. Demonstrate the ability to be punctual and reliable.
  24. Responsible for making the decisions necessary to schedule, coordinate and accomplish the duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the policies and procedures of MetroPlains and the properties, with legal and contractual requirements, and with sound business practices.
  25. Maintain interface with departmental heads, owners, and government agencies to ensure compliance with established budgets, operational plans, and government regulations

Education & Experience:

  1. High school education or the equivalent.
  2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to relate to a diverse group of people.
  3. Internally driven to help others and provide solutions.
  4. Exceptional problem-solving skills.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Physical Demands:

  1. Seldom requires lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.
  2. Often required to sit, stand, walk, bend knees, stretch arms, talk and hear.
  3. Occasionally required to stoop or kneel.
  4. Requires face-to-face contact/telephone/or use of technology for conversations/discussions with individuals or groups of people.
  5. Requires use of a computer to process information.
  6. Requires reading and creating letters, documents, spreadsheets and memos
