POINT DEFIANCE ZOO & AQUARIUM
Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is the only combined zoo and aquarium in the Pacific Northwest. The 29-acre zoological park was established in 1905, and attracts over 800,000 visitors a year. It is nationally accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA), which ensure rigorously high standards of animal welfare, veterinary care, conservation, education and more. The Zoo sits within 700-acre Point Defiance Park, offering spectacular views of Mount Rainier, the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound. Assist the veterinary staff in hospital care duties including cleaning, disinfecting, organizing, stocking, and general housekeeping duties. This position does not have direct animal contact.

In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to:

• Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
• Interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers.
• Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
• Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
• Observe applicable safety requirements, use safety equipment provided, implement appropriate safety practices at all times and report immediately any unsafe working conditions or hazards.

• Clean and disinfect counters, floors, tools, and equipment.
• Restock supplies as directed and organize storage areas.
• Wash, dry, and fold laundry.
• Follow proper safety measures and procedures when using chemicals and cleaning supplies.
• Assist with other hospital maintenance duties as assigned.

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Must have a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Must have a meticulous attention to detail and be well organized.
• Must be able to take verbal and written direction well and work independently with minimal supervision.

HOURS
Hours may vary, Monday – Sunday, 8 am – 5 pm
ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor and outdoor environment.
Fumes, dust, pollen, and noise from equipment operation.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Heavy lifting objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
Bending at the waist.
Squatting.
Stooping.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized equipment and hand tools.
Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Walking over rough or uneven surfaces.

HAZARDS:
Chemicals, fumes, odors, poor ventilation and noise. Exposure to animal fecal matter or animal bodily fluids.
