Metro Nashville Public Health Department is Hiring a Public Health Administrator 1 (Health Equity Coordinator) Near Nashville, TN

The Metro Public Health Department (MPHD) has established a new Bureau of People and Culture. The Bureau’s mission is to advance health equity in Nashville by driving transformational change within MPHD.

This position will lead and facilitate efforts to advance health equity in the Metro Public Health Department (MPHD) and in the Nashville community. The position will serve as the principal resource and advisor for health equity matters.

Typical Duties

  • Serves as primary coordinator of Health Equity efforts to address the Social Determinants of Health for MPHD.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates programs and activities to support broad-based health equity throughout MPHD policies, strategic planning, and Quality Improvement
  • Works with an interdisciplinary team that will develop and implement an operational framework for integrating health equity knowledge and actions within MPHD and with external partners.
  • Leads efforts to ensure that health equity is addressed consistently in policies, programs and funding decisions within the department.
  • Increases MPHD staff knowledge of social determinants of health, and skills and abilities to advance health equity.
  • Provides recommendations regarding health equity-related training and tools to enhance the competency of MPHD staff to address social and cultural determinants of health.
  • Identifies and disseminates culturally appropriate and evidence-based best practices for addressing health equity.
  • Supports development and implementation of Nashville’s Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), particularly as it relates to strategies to advance health equity.
  • Engages with community stakeholders and partners such as Health Equity Coalition (HEC) and Healthy Nashville Leadership Council (HNLC) to promote adoption of policies, systems, and environment changes that advance health equity.
  • Maintains documentation of health equity initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited (4) four-year college or university and one (1) year of responsible, full-time employment in public administration, business administration, public health administration, public health sanitation, public health nursing, public health education, or other appropriate field
or
One (1) year of graduate study in public health administration, public administration, or health education may be substituted for one (1) year of experience
or
A minimum of seven (7) years of increasingly responsible experience in the areas of public health administration, public administration, public health sanitation, or business administration, of which at least one (1) year within the past three (3) years must have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity.

Valid driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.

Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply, however at the present time MPHD is not sponsoring individuals through any of the US Government’s employment-based immigration programs

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of local and regional public health infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of departmental rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to develop agendas and lead meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Skill in routine problem determination and resolution.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $67,425.50 - $82,500.00 per year
