POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Deli Clerk

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Deli Manager/ Deli Merchandiser

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

To provide customer service and food preparation support to the Deli.

NATURE AND SCOPE

Emphasis in this position is on providing prompt, courteous and accurate service to customers as well as proper preparation and display of product. Primary learning challenge is in product knowledge, case sets, tray assembly and equipment use. Position requires ongoing moderate to heavy lifting, walking, standing, operation of Deli equipment, exposure to hot surfaces and oils, social skills, judgment/decision making, reading, writing, and math. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. Assignments and work direction are provided by the Deli Manager, Deli

Merchandiser or person in charge.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

1. Assists with food preparation

- Properly shaves and slices meats and cheeses

- Ensures proper handling, sanitation, freshness, and quality of all product

- Ensures proper assembly and recipes for all food

- Follows tare weight procedures

2. Provides customers with accurate, prompt and courteous service

- Processes orders with proper quantities, quality and price

- Promotes product through suggestive selling

- Utilizes correct procedures for credit returns or exchanges

3. Fills and rotates Deli cases and displays

- Ensures cases and displays are full, clean and attractive

- Maintains proper refrigeration and handles product properly to avoid damage

- Code dates product and separates outdated or unfit product

4. Breaks down the department and performs cleaning duties

-Washes/changes salad bowls

-Breaks down, washes and sanitizes and sharpens slicers

-Cleans cases, ovens and fryers

-Sweeps and mops floors

-Uses personal protective devices (cut resistant gloves, chemical resistant gloves, chemical splash goggles, poly gloves)

Functional Requirements
Frequent: Physical - lifting/carrying 5 to 50 lbs., pushing/pulling 500 to

1500 lbs., walking on uneven ground, turning, standing, reaching, stooping/bending, equipment operation (pallet jack, highboy cart, box cutter, tongs, scales, register, steamer, slicer, wrapper, knives, broaster, chicken fryer, chicken hot case, food processor, pizza oven)

Mental - reading, judgment/decision making, memorization, math,

Writing, social/verbal interaction

Environmental - exposure to hot equipment and cooking oil

Occasional: Physical - lifting/carrying more than 50 lbs., equipment operation

(compactor, coffee pot, ice machine)

5. Follows all store and department policies and procedures

6. Education and/or Experience

-High school education (or concurrent enrollment in an educational institution) preferred but not required
