Job DescriptionTrusted since 2002, Metro Environmental Services (MES) is an industry-leading environmental and construction organization. We offer full-service solutions for clients who store, consume, or sell petroleum products.
Primary Focus:The Director of Construction will oversee a team of project managers, field crews, and
support personnel in a fast-paced environmental construction organization. This
position is responsible for a wide range of functions necessary to successfully manage
the Construction business unit while ensuring a high-quality of service for customers
and clients. They are responsible for managing daily operations, setting budgets,
identifying areas of improvement, and strategic planning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:Construction
  • Conduct Weekly Operational Meetings with Staff
  • Oversees and directs any field personnel through the Operations Manager and/or
  • Project Managers. (Minimize direct involvement with field personnel)
  • Oversees and Participates in Project Buy Out
  • Review and evaluate estimates created by Estimating Dept. and/or project managers
  • Coordinate Transfer meetings with Estimating, Office Manager and PM
  • Works with Managing Member with the prioritization of projects and monitors the volume of work and progress of the construction schedule
  • Responsible for reviewing, completing and executing project contracts in accordance with department requirements.
  • Manage a team of project managers to ensure the projects follow the expected timelines, budgets and business plans.
  • Ensuring the construction process starts and ends on time and ensuring daily and weekly deadlines are met
  • Manages day-to-day client interaction and expectations for multiple projects
  • Ensure customer and client satisfaction
  • Validate potential construction leads
  • Manage new and current Subcontractor relations and communicate status of projects effectively, between vendors, subcontractors, etc.
Financial
  • Develops and manages departmental budgets for the Construction Dept.
  • Provides detailed reports that will include breakdowns of project costs and forecasts of remaining costs.
  • Assist in the development of construction budgets and forecasts
  • Documents data and statistical procedures used in conducting cost analysis.
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual budget to determine standard costs.
  • Provide cost analysis and reporting to assist Managing Members in decision making or other financial initiatives.
  • Ability to meet established production goals and maintain profitability.
Other
  • Reviews and updates weekly Job Cost Reports on the status and progress of the jobs, including project costs and any potential changes.
  • Ensures that all jobs are assigned to a Project Manager and they maintain fiscal control
  • Manage individual team members (office staff) with focus lists
  • Contributes to building a positive team spirit and motivates staff
  • Conduct periodic performance reviews with individuals within the Construction Dept.
  • Ensure employee compliance with all company policies
  • Leads all personnel on a strong H&S focus and ensures safety guidelines are followed on all job sites
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training required
  • 5-10 years of related (construction) experience preferred
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Effective written and oral communication.
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Thorough understanding of cost accounting principles and procedures
  • Problem Solving - Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem-solving situations; uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
