POSITION SUMMARY

The main responsibility of the Practical Instructor is to provide support for the teacher in charge. That may mean working with students one-on-one or in small groups, assisting with classroom management, or giving other kinds of instructional aid to students at their respective work location. The Practical Instructor may also be responsible for maintaining student records.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•Assists in the creation of all reports, records, and other paperwork as assigned by the District, the Agency, the Georgia Department of Education, and the Federal Government, and other paperwork that may be appropriate to the district’s administration.

•Keeps the supervisor informed and works cooperatively with all other staff in school, District, and Agency-related matters.

•Maintains a positive, collaborative, and mutually supportive working relationship with community agencies, parents, students, and Agency, District, and school staff.

•Works with the lead teacher and principal to monitor the class schedule.

•Assists teachers with lesson preparation by getting materials ready and setting up equipment.

•Ensure the classroom environment is safe and clean.

•Collaborate with the school leader to recognize issues students are facing and recommend solutions.

•Document student progress and communicate with parents to keep them informed.

•Assist the classroom teacher in arranging the learning environment, including assembling and putting materials on bulletin boards and/or other classroom learning displays and keeping such displays current.

•Assists students in completing classroom assignments. Assure student understanding of classroom rules and procedures and assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance.

•Administer various tests as directed.

•Prepare mandated reports and documentation as required.

•Assist assigned teacher with the implementation of lesson plans. Tutor individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.

•Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom according to approved procedures, monitor students during outdoor activities, become familiar with student IEP goals and report progress regarding student performance and behavior to supervising teacher.

•Performs such duties as taking attendance, filing, and keeping routine records

•Continues to grow professionally through research, study, and collaboration with colleagues.

•Performs other duties and assumes such other responsibilities ad may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education:

•High school diploma or equivalent qualification – Required

•Bachelor’s degree or higher – Preferred

 

Experience:

•A minimum of two years’ experience as a teaching assistant or similar role –Preferred.

•A minimum of five years’ experience as a teaching assistant or similar role – Preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience working with students.

CERTIFICATIONS

Must hold or be eligible for a paraprofessional certificate through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission

•Normal school environment

•Must understand detention facilities

•Routine physical activities associated with routine classroom work.
