Position Summary
The Head of Concept Development (H/CONDEV) is an exciting and challenging role that will coordinate concept development across Air, Space, Cyber, Software and Synthetics to design, develop and, ultimately, deliver concepts and innovative, elegant solutions to the hardest problems in national security. The H/CONDEV will be responsible for ensuring a systematic and rigorous approach to concept development as well as choreographing the output of specialist labs (Advanced payloads, CEMA etc) across multiple domainsH/CONDEV will need to be sufficiently competent in R&D and concept development to competently oversee all Lab output, albeit subject matter expertise will come from our individual labs and business units. H/CONDEV will also be able to differentiate between exploration (unconstrained, future capabilities) and exploitation (development of capabilities with a customer, effect, or market in mind) and manage activity accordingly.
Essential Functions Statements
- Develop the processes and tooling based on Metrea’s Solution Framework to allow labs to design and develop innovative concepts and capabilities within their areas of specialization.
- Develop mechanisms for tracking, prioritizing, managing and reporting on lab activities to identify synergies that contributes to the creation of unique, innovative, muti-domain solutions that can be delivered to our customers
- Work with the labs to establish consistent ways of working to include cost control, budget management and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements (supported by Enterprise subject matter experts).
- Work with stakeholders to ensure viable concepts are developed and transitioned to productization or developed as enhancements to new or existing services.
Competency Statements
- Process creation and management experience for new business ventures, ideally in the Cyber, Software or Simulation domains. Some aviation experience is desirable but not essential.
- Full concept development life cycle management experience.
- Problem Framing through to productization or delivery to a Business Unit.
- Understanding of applicable certification requirements and standards.
- Some operational or role knowledge and experience in Cyber, Software or Simulation. Air and/or Space knowledge also desirable.
Supervisory ResponsibilityThis role requires the indirect supervision of concept labs leads across Metrea.
Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical DemandsThis is a largely sedentary role; however, some physical abilities may be required.
Position Type and Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require. Non-Exempt employees may be required to work over 40 hours per week.
Facility Location:
Metrea Management – Hybrid with weekly office attendance, ideally in either our Washington or London HQs.
TravelTravel requirements are as necessary to support and manage Metrea concept Labs which are geographically dispersed, mainly in the US. Required Education, Experience and CertificatesEducation: Systems Engineering Degree or similar. Experience: Some previous concept development, research and development or test and evaluation experience.Certificates and Licenses:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Valid Passport
Computer Skills: Microsoft, Teams, Outlook, MS Office, Adobe, Monday Preferred Education, Experience and CertificatesEducation: Post graduate qualification in a relevant field or domain.
Experience: Management experience in a defense or Government lab or research facility. Certificates and Licenses:
Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Products
Additional Eligibility QualificationsMust be able to accomplish all duties with little or no assistance.Must have good command of the English language; oral and written. Work Authorization/Security ClearanceEmployee must be a US or UK citizen.
