Methodist McKinney Hospital is Hiring a Director of Nursing Near Mc Kinney, TX

The Director of Nursing is responsible for the 24/7 management of assigned nursing departments in relation to quality of nursing care delivered, as well as leading, planning, organizing, and evaluating nursing services within the area of the departments. This position oversees the activities of department staffing and productivity, quality assurance, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement. In addition, this position is accountable for employee engagement, adequate staffing levels, budget compliance, employment decisions, development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Directs, develops, and implements strategic and operational/high level projects and processes through either independently or through facilitation of a work team to effectively complete objectives.
  • Oversees management and development of nursing staff to meet overall objectives of quality, services, and cost-effective care. Provides timely guidance and feedback to help others strengthen knowledge and skills needed to accomplish tasks.
  • Identifies opportunities and proactiveness in building strategic relationships with nursing staff, physicians, and other stakeholders in the organization to build a strong culture of teamwork.
  • Drives department service standards to impact clinical departments in objectives related to patient satisfaction, quality of care, nursing quality indicators, regulatory measures, and other metrics.
  • Actively participates in various committees across the organization and is a voice for the represented departments.
  • Employs a proactive approach in optimization of safe outcomes by monitoring department systems and workflows. Implements process improvement science to create action plans.
  • Remains current and proficient with regulatory requirements for the provision of clinical services with Joint Commission and CMS standards.
  • Drives change initiatives and implements innovative solutions for practices or workflow changes to improve departments by leading unit projects, huddles, and performance improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse with at least five years of acute care nursing care experience; at least 2 years of nursing management experience
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or other degree, Master’s degree is highly preferred, certification in nursing leadership is required within two years of hire.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills; able to effectively articulate ideas in presentations and meetings
  • Ability to identify and understand complex problems and opportunities in department workflows, utilizing data sets and evidence-based literature to create solutions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to interact with others in a professional and positive manner.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional handling of confidential/ sensitive information.

Mental/Cognitive Demands: Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, medical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

Lifting Requirements: Level 1 - Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Hazards and Atmospheric Conditions: Normal Office Surroundings, Chemical Hazards, Electrical Hazards, Noise Vibration Exposure to Fumes Exposure to Dust Exposure to Extreme Temperatures. Precautions must be followed when working in any health care environment. Personal protective equipment is provided (gowns, gloves, mask, head covers). Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.
