Summary

The Biomedical Equipment Technician I performs operational and safety testing, maintenance and repairs on general patient care equipment for Methodist Healthcare. Performs routine preventative maintenance on general patient care equipment including but not limited to Infusion/PCA/Syringe/Ambulatory Pumps, Physiological/Fetal/EKG/Vital Signs Monitors, Infant Radiant Warmers & Incubators, Treadmills, Defibrillator/Pacemakers, Warming Cabinets, Patient Warming/Cooling Units, Patient Compression Units, General PT Equipment, General Respiratory Equipment, & other General Biomedical Equipment. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

Associate’s Degree or Military Training in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

One (1) year of Clinical/Biomedical Engineering experience.

High School Diploma and three (3) years of experience in clinical engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience (electronic engineering, computer, or related engineering experience) or Successful completion of the MLH internship.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply highly technical principles, concepts and techniques in solving complex technical problems.
  • Ability to understand and prepare complex written materials, such as equipment manuals.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with all levels of associates, physicians and equipment manufacturers and vendors.
  • Demonstrates a logical and methodical approach in analyzing problems and trouble-shooting.
  • Demonstrates effective and correct use of hand tools.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to organize tasks, set priorities and maintain control of workflow.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Performs preventative maintenance and electrical safety inspections of clinical equipment, devices, and systems.
  • Maintains documentation and inspects/tests all newly purchased, evaluation, demo, leased or rented medical equipment.
  • Determines cause of problems or malfunctions of minor medical equipment.
  • Orders supplies and parts for preventative maintenance activities and services.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self- development and enhancement of professional competency.

Physical Requirements

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: heavy work - exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The Associate may be required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services, general laborer, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection, etc.).
