Job Summary and Qualifications

1. Demonstrates expertise in providing patient care by confirming correct patient identification and that the requested procedure correlates with the patient’s clinical history.

2. Uses interviewing techniques to gather relevant information from the patient or patient’s representative along with the medical records to accurately reveal the health status and medical history of the patient.

3. Assesses the patient’s ability to tolerate procedures and demonstrates a thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and positioning. Positions the patient in a proficient and caring manner to obtain the desired results as specified by diagnosis.

4. Communicates with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient’s ability to understand. Presents explanations and instructions in a manner easily understood by the patient and other health care providers; responds appropriately to patient’s questions and concerns and modifies exams as necessary.

5. Refers specific diagnostic, treatment, or prognosis questions to the patient’s physician.

6. Implements a procedure plan that falls within established protocols.

7. Initiates first aid in emergent situations, as required by practice policy. Notifies an appropriate health provider when immediate medical attention is necessary.

8. Other duties as assigned.

What qualifications you will need:

Education:

Graduate of an educational program in Diagnostic Sonography or minimum one-year obstetrics (OB) experience.

Experience:

A single two-year allied health education program that is patient-care related

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
• RDMS Fetal Echocardiography
• Associate Degree
