Metcalfe Inc is Hiring a Store Director Near Madison, WI

Summary: This individual will be responsible for managing all aspects of the store including staff, sales, margin, and labor. The Store Director is required to assist customers as needed and maintain a friendly, energetic demeanor. This position requires working shifts on nights, weekends and holidays, based on department staffing requirements.

Essential Duties: Essential job duties for this position include the following items. Other duties must be performed as assigned or required.

  • Work with all departments to ensure and maintain appropriate functioning of entire store operations.
  • Monitor and control all costs and expenses; includes maintaining proper ordering and inventory control, ensuring proper weighing procedures, controlling shrink, and monitoring displays.
  • Oversee department managers to ensure they are held accountable for the conditions of their department.
  • Manages the store staff including hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and required performance reviews; ensure staff is trained on all policies and procedures.
  • Oversee shift operations including writing and/or approving Department work schedules.
  • Manage and analyze store financial statements.
  • Maintain a safe work environment for employees, vendors and customers.
  • Monitor and address customer issues or questions.
  • Receive, inspect, and log products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality.
  • Monitor the rotation of all grocery products paying particular attention to expired stock and discarding outdated or expired items.
  • Manage departments’ inventory control ensuring no out of stocks and/or over-stocks.
  • Handle all weekly and monthly inventory tasks as required.
  • Sustain a high level of product knowledge and product preparation.
  • Work toward continuous quality improvement
  • Uphold, support, and promote all company policies and procedures
  • Ensures accurate personnel records for all store employees
  • Stays current with changing company technology, including software programs
  • Leads, coaches, teaches and reinforces Metcalfe’s culture, customer service, and performance expectations to all Department employees.
  • Upholds, supports, and promotes all company policies and procedures
  • Follows safe food handling and local health department standards.
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities: The Store Director shares supervisory responsibility for all store departments and staff, including approximately twenty-five (25) direct reports.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, the Store Director must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skills and ability required.

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma/equivalent required, Associate’s degree (A.A.) or technical school training preferred
  • Two to four years previous related retail management experience and/or training required.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to handle a diverse crew in a stressful environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of the retail food business, thorough knowledge of perishable department operations, merchandising skills, must be able to make timely and effective decisions.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in a diverse, fast-paced and stressful environment.
  • Knowledge of technology, the use of a computer, and Microsoft Office- More specifically, Outlook, Word and Excel

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Valid Driver’s License Required

CPR/AED Certification Required, Metcalfe’s will help certify if needed

Food Safety Certification Required, Metcalfe’s will help certify if needed

Wisconsin Liquor Operator License Required, Metcalfe’s will pay to certify if needed

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Vision – Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).
  • Travel/Driving – Approximately greater than 1/3 of on-the-job time to visit other store locations. May require use of own vehicle.

  • Environmental – Occasionally exposed to working near moving mechanical parts; fumes or air borne particles; and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Noise – Moderate (i.e. computers, printers, fax machines, etc.)
