Summary: This individual will assist customers with special requests and answer questions about meat products and services. May assist in the production of meat products for sale. Performs duties that comply with local health code and follow proper safety procedures and standards. This position requires working weekends and holidays based on department staffing requirements.

Essential Duties: Essential job duties for this position include the following items.

• Provides prompt and courteous customer service; receives and fulfills all orders
• Wraps, weighs, labels and displays all merchandise utilizing the automatic wrapping machine
• Stocks display case and rotate merchandise as requested
• Maintains accurate retail pricing and signage
• Operates meat grinder, slicer and marinator machines
• Assembles value added products and cheese to the meat display
• Assists customers with all inquiries and requests
• Operates machinery by following proper department production and safety standards, as needed
• Inspects and reassemble equipment for use and perform routine maintenance as assigned
• Cleans and sanitizes work area, equipment and utensils in compliance with health code
• Sustains a high level of product knowledge and product preparation
• Demonstrates excellent customer service standards
• Reports hazard and safety violations immediately
• Works toward continuous quality improvement
• Ensures accurate pricing by placing the corresponding price and ingredient labels on each package
• Upholds Metcalfe’s culture, customer service, and performance expectations
• Upholds, supports and promotes all company policies and procedures
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, the individual in this position must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skills and ability required.

Education/Experience:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
• 6 months previous grocery experience preferred
• Must 18 years of age or older

Language Skills:

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certifications:

• Food Safety Certification- preferred
