METALICO is Hiring a CDL Class B Driver Near Syracuse, NY
JOB TITLE: CDL Class B Driver
REPORTS TO: Transportation Logistics Manager
JOB TYPE: Full-time, Non-Exempt
LOCATION: 6225 Thompson Rd, Syracuse, NY 13206
HOURS OF OPERATION: Monday - Friday 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
OVER TIME: Saturday’s 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM as Needed and/or Requested
COMPENSATION: Based on Experience & Skills
PURPOSE:
Safely and efficiently deliver and pick up Metalico containers at customer sites. Perform all job duties in accordance with company policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Safe Driving Practices (Abide by DOT Regulations).
- Drive safely; ensure every trip is completed in accordance with DOT regulations, speed limits and accident free.
- Conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections on every truck driven daily.
- Completes required paperwork accurately and turn in paperwork at the end of each work day.
- Ensure appropriate material distribution and securing load by using tarps as required and tying down load.
- Responsible for maneuvering truck at customer’s site in a safe and accident free manner at all times.
- Monitors truck’s mechanical functions, ensures truck is maintained in accordance with maintenance / DOT schedules.
- Aware of materials allowed hauling and materials not allowed hauling (HAZARDOUS MATERIALS).
- Dialing, holding mobile phone to ear and texting while driving is not permitted.
- Safety is a priority, follow all safety rules and wear appropriate PPE at all times, look for opportunities to improve safety.
- Participates in mandatory scheduled safety meetings.
- In the event of an accident/injury, if physically able the driver must immediately call and report to the transportation manager for next steps. Take photos if possible and wait for Metalico personnel or police to respond.
- Truck is kept clean inside and out.
- Willing to switch from one type of truck to another (For example tractor to Roll Off or from a Roll off to a straight truck, etc.) pending on business needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Class B License Required.
- Class A license a plus.
- 2 years driving experience preferred.
- Clean driving record a plus.
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
- Pick up and deliver containers at customer sites timely and efficiently.
- Provide customers with appropriate paperwork and obtain customer signature on dispatch ticket.
- Represents Metalico in a professional and courteous manner.
- Communicates all customer needs / concerns to transportation manager.
- Driver must be considerate to not over extend their presence at the customer site, if anything goes wrong (property damage, spills, injuries…), the driver must immediately call and report incident to the transportation manager for resolution.
- Maintains a positive relationship with yard staff, and understands departmental requirements and how each function impacts others within organization.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to enter and exit truck cab using foot and hand holds.
- Depending on need, must be able to exert force for pushing and pulling. Able to stoop, bend, twist, balance, climb, crouch, and kneel.
- Straight Truck Drivers - physical job, able to push, pull heavy wagons/containers. Physical limitations must be reported immediately to Supervisor.
- Applicants must be registered in the Federal DOT Clearinghouse. Job offer will be contingent on a pre-hire physical, including drug screening and criminal background screening and MVR report.
