Messmer Catholic Schools is Hiring an Elementary Science and Middle School STEM Teacher Near Milwaukee, WI

Messmer Catholic Schools is a K4-12 Catholic school system that serves students and families on the northside of Milwaukee. Messmer Catholic Schools currently enrolls over 1100 students. 80% of our students attend college. African American students comprise 85% of the student body and over 80% of students qualify for free/reduced meals. POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Elementary Science and Middle School STEM Teacher will be motivated to make a positive impact on students while keeping a focus on academic success and help students achieve their fullest potential. The Science/STEM Teacher will engage positively and professionally with grade level teams to create a positive culture and ensure student success.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education Requirements: Bachelor in Education, with a Science emphasis
  • Required Certifications/Licenses: MUST hold or be eligible to obtain a DPI Elementary/Middle Level Education or Regular Education (1088 or 1777); Desired Certification of Science License (1061) or be able to show working towards licensure
  • Experience: Prefer but not required, 1-2 years of experience in education, preferably in an urban city classroom and realizing significant gains

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work performed in this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required; other duties may be assigned.

  • Plan, prepare, and facilitate instruction and learning activities for the prescribed curriculum for the grade and/or subject area(s) he/she is teaching. Manage the learning process, evaluate student performance, maintain records, and plan lessons.
  • Knowledgeable about Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards
  • Implement, execute, and measure academic success at the classroom level. Use data collected using formative and summative assessments to discuss and inform instruction.
  • Knowledge/experience in developing and analyzing common assessments
  • Manage safe student use of science equipment and materials during hands-on learning activities
  • Uses a variety of instructional & engagement strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, labs, discovery, etc
  • Proctor standardized assessments such as Forward Exam and MAP
  • Use and integrate technology in classroom and project-based instruction
  • Provide leadership in ensuring a positive school culture for adults and students.
  • High presence and availability to all students, faculty and parents.
  • Work cooperatively and interact positively with students, parents, staff and community.
  • Follow established teaching protocols and programs to ensure consistency among schools.
  • Assist with the ongoing review and improvement of processes and procedures related to the school.
  • Oversee classroom discipline and escalate issues to appropriate personnel, as applicable.
  • Support rotational duties with other teachers such as, but not limited to, before-school supervision, after-school supervision, lunch/recess supervision
  • Participate in and attend all faculty meetings and professional development sessions
  • Prepare for and attend teacher conferences and other school events as scheduled, and as needed for individual students
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and other staff members to ensure each student is making academic and social progress
  • Provide structure and directions for Educational Assistant (when applicable)
  • Proactively and effectively communicate with all school personnel, families, and colleagues in a timely manner
  • Participate in the school-wide teacher coaching program; receiving feedback and actively working to continuously improve teaching practice and overall performance
