The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist supports the Merritt Trailers team to ensure that safety remains at the forefront of everything we do. The EHS specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and ensuring the execution of the company's safety strategy and goals. This role will serve as the subject matter expert for EHS matters. The ideal candidate will be passionate about creating a safe workplace and reducing environmental impact, with a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.


Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant standards.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety and environmental management systems to minimize employee and environmental risks.
  • Coordinate and conduct employee training on EHS policies, emergency response procedures, and best practices in workplace safety.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root cause analysis and how they might be prevented.
  • Manage all applicable permitting; liaise with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders to ensure the plant complies with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Manage hazardous materials from storage to disposal, ensuring proper handling, labeling, and reporting in accordance with environmental laws.
  • Collaborate with the continuous improvement and production teams to integrate EHS considerations into manufacturing processes and facility design.
  • Prepare and submit environmental and safety reports and documentation as required.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends, technologies, and environmental health and safety regulations, and recommend improvements to current practices.
  • Manage workers' compensation program; maintain OSHA 300 and 300A reporting requirement.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of environmental, health, and safety laws at all government levels.
  • Risk Assessment: Skills in identifying and mitigating potential hazards in the workplace.
  • Safety Management Systems: Knowledge of creating and maintaining systems to manage workplace safety.
  • Emergency Response Planning: Ability to plan and execute emergency procedures.
  • Industrial Hygiene: Understanding of practices to control workplace hazards affecting health.
  • Environmental Sustainability: Commitment to reducing waste and environmental impact.
  • Communication Skills: Proficiency in delivering training, writing reports, and liaising with regulatory bodies.
  • Auditing and Inspection: Capabilities in conducting compliance checks and recommending improvements.
  • Incident Investigation and Reporting: Skills in analyzing accidents, determining causes, and preventing recurrence.
  • Continuous Improvement: Dedication to updating knowledge on EHS trends and applying them to enhance safety programs.

Requirements:

  • Relevant certifications, education for accredited institutions, 2 years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Random drug testing is required after employment.

Compensation:

  • $65,000.00 - $80,000.00, based on experience and certifications. We also offer a robust benefits package, which includes health, dental, and vision insurance.
