Merritt Academy is looking for professionals who are passionate about teaching and working with children and are excited about making a difference in their lives. We are seeking a Music Teacher to be responsible for preparing and instructing music classes in a variety of musical instruments and vocal techniques for Kindergarten through Eighth grade students. In addition to music instruction, lessons will include appropriate elements of the values curriculum. The Music Teacher will be responsible for managing the classroom and appropriate use of bulletin boards, visual aids, and technology in the classroom. This position is also responsible for planning music fieldtrips, plan and organizing recitals, concerts and other performances for students to showcase their talent. The Music Teacher is responsible for performing all professional tasks in a manner that exemplifies school standards of courtesy and values.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a music-related discipline or education or related field
• Experience working in education
• Strong knowledge of childhood development and an understanding of how children learn and develop their musical abilities at different stages
• Strong knowledge of various musical instruments
• Experience teaching Orff-Schulwerk and/or handbells preferred
• Must demonstrate an understanding of music concepts and be able to communicate those concepts effectively to students
• Must have an advanced understanding of music theory and technique 
• Effective time management skills to keep students on task in a lesson
• Read, write, and communicate effectively in English
• Pass pre-employment screenings
