The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for the administration of pharmacological, diagnostic, and therapeutic agents related to respiratory care procedures necessary to implement treatment, disease prevention, pulmonary rehabilitative, or diagnostic regimes prescribed by physicians. Duties include the transcription and implementation of the written or verbal orders of a physician pertaining to the practice of Respiratory Care, proper assessment, observation and monitoring of signs and symptoms, general behavior, and general physical response to Respiratory Care treatments and diagnostic testing. The Certified Respiratory Therapist will recommend and initiate appropriate respiratory care procedures and protocols based on observed abnormalities, implement changes in treatment pursuant to the written or verbal orders of a physician. The Certified Respiratory Therapist must have the ability to assess and initiate emergency procedures. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care deliver to achieve desired outcomes.
Associates degree in Respiratory Care is required. One (1) year of acute Respiratory Therapy Services is preferred. Current Mississippi Respiratory Care licensure is required. Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential is required. BLS certification is required (or within 30 days of hire into the department). ACLS certification is strongly preferred. PALS and NRP certifications are preferred.
