Employer Relations Officer

Location: Erie

SUMMARY
The Person of Employment Relations is responsible for building relationships and creating awareness
among corporate and community organizations with regards to the benefits of hiring university
students and graduates and of the services of the career and professional development center. The
goals of the position are to increase job posting, recruitment, and hiring activity for the university's
students and graduates and to generate increased monetary and non-monetary support for the career
center and the university.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proactively develop and implement strategies designed to increase employment opportunities
for our students and graduates.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with organizations and business sectors that historically
have had little or no interaction with the career center and/or experience with hiring our
students and graduates. Seek to connect these entities with the appropriate resources and
personnel at the career center and/or the university.
  • Advise and counsel employers with regards to the most effective means of identifying potential
job candidates to meet the employer's specific needs, including, but not limited to campus
recruitment, job postings, internships, career fairs, class/organization presentations, and
resume searches.
  • Seek to generate monetary support, sponsorships, and gifts-in-kind from the private sector to
support the goals and objectives of the career center and the university.
  • Track job market demand, use of career services, and hiring results for students in various
academic majors; formulate strategies for achieving greater participation rates for those majors
that underuse available career resources.
  • Monitor the quality of customer service for the career center, including the collection and
analysis of survey data and assessment of and follow-up with informal feedback. Make

recommendations as to how the career center can maintain and improve quality customer
service.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of local and national employment market trends and their
actual and potential impact on the hiring of college students and graduates.
  • Coordinate outreach activities, when appropriate, with other university departments and
personnel, including, but not limited to, the Office of Development, alumni groups, and college-
based career services offices.
  • Participate in career development programs coordinated by the career center, including, but
not limited to, work-study job placement, workshops, employer seminars, and meetings within
and outside of the career center, and other special projects of the career center.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to advance the goals and objectives of the career center, the
division of advancement, and the university.
  • Support the director in management of the Handshake platform and connect with current and
potential employers utilizing data available through the system

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, public relations,

communications, or related fields.
  • Minimum two years of experience within a university or business/industry environment

involving career and employment issues, sales/marketing, or other business
development functions.

• Ability to create and maintain professional networks.

  • Effective written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of career development theory, career paths, and job-search strategies.
  • Display creativity, initiative, and positive attitude in carrying out responsibilities
  • Ability to build a team as well as be a contributing team member.
  • Demonstrated skills in clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven research ability and computer skills to facilitate duties.
  • Ability to be efficient and work independently while also being able to collaborate effectively in
a group setting.
  • Ability to organize information, manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to travel as needed in region and occasionally within U.S.
  • Willingness to learn and implement new technologies

This position requires a high degree of discretion and tact, and the ability to manage and prioritize
multiple competing projects and deadlines. Some weekend and evening hours are required.
