Position Summary:

Mercyhurst University is seeking a dynamic and innovative individual to serve as the Coordinator,
Strategic Initiatives within our Advancement Division. This role will focus on managing regular and
special projects in the office of the Vice President for Advancement and External Relations.

A broad set of assignments are required in the areas of VP representation and communications,
workflow and project management, confidential administrative support, research and report
development, and operations management. The Coordinator is expected to exercise discrete and
independent judgment in the execution of all tasks. A professional presence in the representation of
the VP as well as the department is a requirement for this position.

The Coordinator, Strategic Initiatives supports the VP by assuming responsibility for all administrative
functions of the department. The position manages the VP’s time, calendar, travel, records,
communications, and stakeholder relationships.

The position also supports the VP in setting strategic priorities, helping identify the areas of focus and
identifying and tracking metrics for success. The position acts as a project manager for the office of the
VP, overseeing large, cross-functional, organization-wide projects and initiatives. The position helps to
research, benchmark, analyze data, and make recommendations for operationalizing the VP’s
initiatives.

The position also aids in the development and implementation of multi-channel marketing and
communications strategies aimed at strengthening the University's reputation, fostering relations with
alumni and external entities, promoting fundraising efforts, and crafting compelling narratives to
inspire philanthropic support.

Duties include:

  • Prepares the VP or a variety of meetings, presentations and discussions, including researching and
gathering critical information on issues, developing, and proposing agenda items, and conducting
necessary follow-ups.
  • Manages and coordinates the administrative and day-to-day affairs of the VP's office, including
functions, meetings, events, projects, and activities.
  • Communicates with internal and external constituencies regarding various matters; composes and
edits correspondence, presentations, reports, and other documents and follows up, as necessary.
  • Develops institutional relationships to foster collaboration with a variety of individuals internal and
external to the organization.
  • Anticipates and problem solves issues and concerns impacting the work of the VP; participates in
priority setting and brainstorming with the VP and Advancement staff.
  • Represents and speaks on behalf of the VP office at meetings, as requested.
  • Manages office projects including developing project objectives and timelines, identifying and
engaging resources, communicating with project members, and managing project budgets.
  • Researches and analyzes problems and issues and makes recommendations to the VP.
  • Serves as department liaison, working collaboratively on strategic initiatives with other university
departments and external constituencies.
  • Develop, implement, and manage effective marketing and communication strategies that engage

our diverse community across various channels, including social media, email, print, website, and
events.

  • Create compelling, innovative content for various platforms that resonates with different
audiences, particularly prospective and current donors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the VP.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field, or an equivalent
combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated experience on various social
media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, and Snapchat.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools and analytics.
  • Demonstrated ability to create compelling content for various channels, with a preference for
graphic design experience, especially in electronic mediums.
  • Experience in fundraising and donor relations is a plus.
  • Strong project management skills, including experience using common project management
software.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal direction to accomplish essential tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Must be a detail-oriented team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be
able to interact effectively with diverse populations with a focus on providing support for multiple
people. Must be analytical, well-organized, and self-motivated.

This is a full-time position with a normal work schedule of 37.5 hours per week, typically Monday-
Friday from 08:30-04:30. Additional evening or weekend hours may be required to meet deadlines and
fully engage in the University community.
