Director of Finance and Information Systems

Manages and directs the accounting operations of the organization. Hands-on position ensures legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting, and Accounts payable functions. Completes and oversees general accounting, accounts payables , and budget. Provides accurate financial information and reporting about activities that will assist the management team, Board of Directors and other users in making educated economic decisions about the Company’s future. Supervises accounting and accounts payable staff.

The Information Systems Manager’s role is to ensure the streamlined operation of the IT in alignment with the business objectives of the organization. The Manager will plan, coordinate, as well as provide administrative direction and support for activities of the Information Systems operations. Works closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization. The Information Systems Manager will also define and implement IT policies, procedures and best practices.

Participates on the Management Team and supports CEO. Position establishes accounting procedures, and recommends budgetary objectives and reporting guidelines. Position works closely with the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.

Distinguishing Features of the class:

Position supports the financial plan by coordinating annual budget process and accounting functions. Position provides recommendations for overall direction of financial accounting and reporting, cash management and bank relationships management initiatives. Prepares and directs financial accounting activities of the organizations. Position ensures the integrity of the Accounting policies and procedures. Serves as trainer/educator on accounting procedures and processes such as annual budget process.

Leads the organization’s information systems, technology, strategic planning, including fostering innovation, planning projects and organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources.

Illustrative Examples of Work:

  • Completes and oversees the activities of the Accounting areas for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports, including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statement and annual budgets. Coordinates annual audits with external auditors.
  • Oversee the activities of accounts payable ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, petty cash, core employee expense reports, cash control,
  • Hires, trains, develops, and appraises staff effectively. Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Consults with Human Resources as appropriate.
  • Coordinates activities regarding corporate income tax returns. Works with tax preparer to take full advantage of all favorable tax codes.
  • Supports vendor work for tax filing and auditing purposes. Reviews vendor work for accuracy.
  • Responsible for accurate completion of General Ledger entries.
  • Responsible for monthly and year end reconciliations .
  • Keeps up-to-date on information and technology affecting functional area(s) to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
  • Respond to CEO as assigned with accurate and timely work.
  • Ensures compliance with GAAP, FASB and other regulatory requirements with appropriate yearly training as required by industry.
  • Works closely with the Finance Committee.
  • Builds and coordinates budget process providing support to supervisors as needed.
  • Reviews and analyzes monthly reports of operating units, and facilitates discussions with operating unit management regarding financial planning and budget.
  • Review and implements accounting policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Performs financial accounting and reporting activities.
  • Prepares reports which summarize and forecast business activities and financial position.
  • Oversees preparation of budget
  • Consults and advises management on budget and accounting compliance issues.
  • Manages cash flow forecasting.
  • Works effectively and relates well with others including superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Company. The employee exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others and works to maintain constructive working relationships.
  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade and support of all IT systems, including telecommunications, servers, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software, peripherals and Office Automation equipment.
  • Benchmark, analyze, report on and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the IT infrastructure and IT systems.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of accounting, general ledger, budgeting, business operations, and strategic planning.
  • Knowledge or FASB reporting requirements and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) compliance and reporting activities.
  • Knowledge of information technology and computer based applications related to job. Ability to learn, utilize and optimize systems needed for job.
  • Knowledge of Accounting compliance issues.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups both orally and in written form to analyze data, use statistics and design graphic materials and presentation aids.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to make decisions and follow through with action plans.
  • Team player who collaborates with others
  • Ability to conduct and direct research into IT issues and products as required.
  • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science or advanced degree in finance/accounting and 1 to 3 years related degree/experience for IT required.
  • 3 or more years of experience in advanced Accounting operations
  • 3 or more years management and supervisory experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Accounts Payable
  • Non-Profit financial management experience preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
  • Proven experience in IT infrastructure planning and development.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
