Summary This position supports Mercy#s philosophy of patient centered care by overseeing the point of care testing program at Mercy Medical Center and outlying Mercy facilities. The POCT Coordinator is responsible for maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements for point-of-care testing, including CAP, CLIA, and The Joint Commission # Job Duties/Essential Functions Job Duties Ensure that accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families, and co-workers at hand offs and other times as needed. Take all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome Ensures compliance with CAP Point-of-Care Testing standards Ensures compliance with The Joint Commission Waived Testing standards Evaluates and implements new point-of-care testing technology Develops and maintains point-of-care testing procedures and documents, both within the laboratory and at testing locations Develops and maintains orientation and annual competency for point-of-care testing end users Selects, distributes, and monitors appropriate point-of-care proficiency testing materials Develops and maintains quality indicators for point-of-care testing Actively participates in performance improvement activities related to point-of-care testing use Maintains acceptable inventory levels for point-of-care supplies Communicates effectively with staff, peers, physicians, patients, and families, including written, verbal, and listening Actively participates in Laboratory Leadership activities and other teams, committees, and councils as assigned Maintains and improves skills by participating in at least one continuing education activity annually Acts as a resource for laboratory medicine information to providers and others Assists in billing corrections and reconciliation of rejections Department Specific Duties N/A Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of laboratory testing procedures Knowledge of regulatory requirements, including CAP, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), and TJC Ability to work independently, to meet deadlines efficiently, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and to be highly self-motivated Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work with interruptions Skill to use the laboratory information system (LIS) Ability to detail-oriented Ability to complete appropriate documentation and paperwork clearly and completely Skilled at effective analytical, critical thinking, creativity, communication, and relationship building Ability to work collaboratively with nursing and other testing staff Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other computer applications Professional Experience Required: At least 3 years in a clinical laboratory setting Preferred: At least 1 year of point-of-care testing experience Education Required: Associate#s degree in medical laboratory, biological, or chemical science Preferred: Bachelor#s degree in medical laboratory, biological, or chemical science Licensure, Certification, Registration Required: Certification as an Medical Laboratory Technologist (American Society for Clinical Pathology - ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Technologist (American Medical Technologists) Preferred: Certification as an Medical Laboratory Scientist (American Society for Clinical Pathology - ASCP), MT(American Society for Clinical Pathology - ASCP), or Medical Technologist (American Medical Technologists - AMT) Physical Demand Requirements Light: Exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently
