Maintenance Mechanic - St Joseph Warren Hospital
I PRIMARY FUNCTION / GENERAL PERPOSE OF POSITION:
The primary responsibilities are to provide maintenance and repairs to a variety of hospital systems and equipment to ensure proper patient care.
II. EMPLOYMNET QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge acquired through a high school education, plus two or more years technical training or equivalent Previous work experience with equipment repairs related to Electrical, Plumbing and Ventilation systems. Demonstrated skills and ability to operate a variety of plant equipment, hand and power tools in a safe manner. Must possess good over-all mechanical skills Must have a current Virginia drivers license. Ability to work varied shifts and schedules to accommodate hospital needs.
III ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs preventive maintenance on equipment; completes required documentation on schedule. Maintains and repairs plumbing systems to include unstopping drain lines, repair leaks traps and faucet/ toilet valves. Makes electrical repairs such as light switches, receptacles, ballasts, and lamp replacement. Performs various carpentry functions, to include repairing tables, desks drawers, chairs and doors, minor painting, wall repairs, and ceiling tile replacements. Moves office equipment and furniture when required. Maintains clean and safe work areas at all times, including mechanical and storage areas. Responds to hospital emergencies in accordance with Hospital / Engineering Department procedures such as fire alarms, Inclement weather and maintains effective training for Emergency Preparedness as directed by hospital safety committees.
IV. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs other job duties as assigned.
V. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in all areas of the hospital where there is risk to potential exposure to electrical and mechanical equipment, chemicals, hazardous waist and refrigerants. May be required to work outside in all types of weather conditions. Must be able to climb ladders, bend, stoop, push and pull. To walk, or stand for eighty percent of work time; lifting and carrying weights of forty pounds up to twenty percent of the time.
The individual performing this job may reasonably anticipate coming into contact human blood and other potentially infectious materials. Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, and use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.
