Position Summary:The primary job function is under general supervision, travels to various locations throughout assigned territory to inspect and evaluate physical damage to vehicles for first and third party claims; assesses the current market value and estimates cost of repair.
Essential Job Functions:

• Ensures equitable settlement of damages and maintains good customer service and shop relations. Inspect and evaluate the degree of physical damage to vehicles for first and third party claims; complete detailed summary of damage and estimate cost of repair based on knowledge of equipment, parts and present values.
• Present estimates and reach agreed upon price with repair facility, and confirm assessment of damages and costs; negotiate settlements with related parties as necessary. Research total cash value of vehicle and parts by gathering and analyzing current market information to reach a settlement for total losses.
• Take photographs of vehicle and physical damage to aid in the determination of liability and to substantiate findings; submit with completed reports and thorough documentation. Perform re-inspections and authorize supplemental repairs as necessary to ensure quality service and thorough restoration of damage.
• Maintain communication with clients throughout repair process; report initial evaluation and summary of damage, explain relevant procedures, respond to customer inquiries; provide complete, courteous and timely customer service. Keep abreast of current values of vehicles and parts, changes in the industry and in Company policies and procedures.
• Regular attendance at work on a full-time schedule of at least 8 hours and 40 hours per week

Education:Completion of a general high school education, 6 months technical training.
Experience:Minimum of 2 years as a Field Appraiser or equivalent experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Comprehensive knowledge of appraisal theory, technique, Company procedures and the insurance contract.
• Solid understanding of automobile components, current values and repair practices to resolve the repair or settlement of damaged vehicles.
• Strong technical and analytical ability to make complex, accurate assessments of damage and reparability.
• Able to communicate effectively and professionally to insureds, claimants, attorneys, etc. in explaining the estimation and repair process and negotiate fair settlements with repair facilities.
• Demonstrated ability to handle field inspections and estimates.
• Able to work independently with minimum supervision while meeting established levels of production.
• Requires automobile travel up to 50% of work time.
• Position includes use of a Company car.
• Must meet established Company standards regarding personal driving history and current license status to be eligible for position.
