Embedded in a worldwide network Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America continuously strives to remain at the forefront of successful automotive research and development. MBRDNA is headquartered in Silicon Valley, California, with key areas of Autonomous Driving, Advanced Interaction Design, Digital User Experience, Machine Learning, Customer Research, and Open Innovation. In Farmington Hills, Michigan, the focus is on Powertrain and eDrive technology as well as in Long Beach, where the teams test durability of the latest driver assistant and telematic systems. The Digital Hub in Seattle focusses on developing a cloud architecture and building out the cloud platform for the next generation of connected car services. The Testing and Regulatory Affairs Division in Ann Arbor and the Advanced Vehicle Design in Carlsbad complete the competence center.

This role, reporting to the Chief People Officer is the strategic business partner to managers and employees within MBRDNA in the Michigan region. This position interacts with complex/matrix relationships in the business, collaborating effectively across business and Human Resource networks/partners. The person in this role will consult, advise, coach, and work with the business on people and organizational needs and partners with leaders to drive organizational effectiveness, including change management. This position will take a leadership role for the People Business Partner team in managing various HR processes and initiatives across the organization.

Job Responsiblities:

  • Consults, advises, coaches, and partners with the business on people and organizational needs and drives organizational effectiveness.
  • Act as key HR point of contact, thought partner, and sounding board for business leads.
  • Act as lead for the People Business Partners in a coordinative and escalation support role.
  • Liaise with HR colleagues in the various Employee Journey functions on local, regional and global levels to ensure strategic alignment with company goals and business objectives. While experts from these areas may take the lead in communicating with your customers, your involvement and knowledge of processes, programs and application are key to your role as the link between the HR team and our customers.
  • Driven by location and time-zone differences, act as key contact interacting with Mercedes Benz Group in Europe on detail MB wide processes, policies and issues. German language skills are helpful however (absolutely) not essential.
  • Partner with MBASA to manage Global Assignment Management process organization wide.
  • Identify, define and implement solutions that address the needs of the business while taking into account the broader implications.
  • Executes HR strategies that support MBRDNA business plans and ensures organizational capability.
  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensure regulatory compliance. Partners with the legal department as needed/required.
  • Partner with other MBRDNA HR managers to align and execute on initiatives.
  • Contribute to the People Agenda by applying broad HR skills in the areas of organization design and development, change management, workforce planning, coaching/consultation. program/project management, facilitation, and communication.
  • Identify talent issues before they affect the business. Help monitor the next generation of leaders through talent management and career development. Contribute to assessment/selection for business leaders and other critical positions.
  • Determine most efficient and effective way to deliver services at affiliate level based on costs, ratios and appropriate Key Performance Indicators.
  • Act as an advocate for ensuring compliance of all MB-wide HR practices.
  • Mentor and coach junior People Team members.
  • This role requires on-site presence to support management and employees at our two Michigan Locations, Ann Arbor and Farmington Hills.
  • The amount of travel for this role is up to 25% annually.
  • This position supports a team of three People Business Partners and a contingent workforce employee possibly.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree or Masters in Human Resource, Human Relations, Employment Law or related field.
  • 10 years of Human Resources Business Partner or HR-related experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication to articulately share a vision, communicate a plan, and align action.
  • Strong focus on delivering exceptional customer service; demonstrated interpersonal, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, continually evolving environment and work with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to effectively manage a team.
  • Strong work ethic, integrity, compliance focus and personal accountability.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated experience understanding the business needs of internal clients and implementing programs that positively impact work group performance.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) Certification or Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) Certification
  • Experience in an Automotive and/or Research and Development Environment
