Mercedes-Benz R&D North America is Hiring an Emissions & EPA Technician Near Ann Arbor, MI

Embedded in a worldwide network Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America continuously strives to remain at the forefront of successful automotive research and development. MBRDNA is headquartered in Silicon Valley, California, with key areas of Autonomous Driving, Advanced Interaction Design, Digital User Experience, Machine Learning, Customer Research, and Open Innovation. In Farmington Hills, Michigan, the focus is on Powertrain and eDrive technology as well as in Long Beach, where the teams test durability of the latest driver assistant and telematic systems. The Digital Hub in Seattle focusses on developing a cloud architecture and building out the cloud platform for the next generation of connected car services. The Testing and Regulatory Affairs Division in Ann Arbor and the Advanced Vehicle Design in Carlsbad complete the competence center.

Learn to perform requested testing per defined procedures. Maintain test equipment. Learn and understand emission equipment and testing procedure under the guidance of other Senior team members.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Learn and understand all necessary EPA and CARB test procedures as well as equipment operation
  • Prepare vehicles for testing by conducting fuel drain and fills as well as canister conditioning
  • Perform testing and/or calibrations per defined procedures. Store data from results.
  • Participate in new equipment, software and internal/ external training
  • Maintain facility cleanliness and organization
  • Support general Tech Center operations as well as all Tech Center staff
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate’s Degree- Trade School and/or 1 – 3 years relevant work experience
  • Basic understanding of electronic, electrical, hydraulic and/or mechanical systems, tools and/or equipment is beneficial
  • Hands-on experience in most aspects of automotive diagnostic and repair work and/or analytical laboratory experience
  • Strong diagnostic skills
  • The ability to learn and understand new concepts and applications
  • PC literacy in Windows based programs
  • Basic emission knowledge
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Minimum 1 year experience in automotive testing environment
  • Willingness to travel
  • The fully trained individual must develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of:
  • Company policies and procedures
  • Company goals and vision
  • Departmental practices and procedures
  • Interdepartmental relationships and their effect on company, departmental and individual goals
  • Software that is applicable to the job
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Valid Drivers License
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a Mercedes Benz environment
