WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
We're looking for a Treasury Support Specialist to join our team at our beautiful headquarters located just north of downtown Grand Rapids.
As a community bank, our dedication is to taking care of our customers and helping them thrive. In this role, your focus would be on our business customers and providing support with their treasury products.
This role requires to you be somewhat knowledgeable in all the products (primarily online systems) that our business customers utilize, and apply that knowledge when taking requests, responding to, and often times executing system maintenance and administrative tasks. This is a support role for all of our treasury products and while having prior knowledge in banking and specifically treasury management is helpful, it's not required.
Someone who enjoys technology and is naturally curious is likely to thrive in this position because of the amount of system and mobile application support required in this role. This role can be likened to the IT helpdesk of business banking products, and you never know what the next call will be! As technology is always changing, you'll also need to keep up with the new services, systems, and product enhancements coming down the pike.
If you enjoy variety and can learn a little about a lot, your expertise will help remove obstacles for customers and provide you with the satisfaction of making someone's day better on an hourly basis. At times this can be stressful if you're unsure how to immediately help them, but you'll have training, resources, and a team to lean on. We also utilize a customer tracking system to record and update the status of each customer's inquiry. This system helps keep things organized as you work through customer requests. By logging the details and using your excellent communication skills, you can follow up, troubleshoot, and escalate as needed.
Speaking of communication skills, someone comfortable on the phone and able to interact professionally through verbal and written methods is non-negotiable! This role is best suited for someone who is energized by connecting with others and talking on the phone an average of 25% of their day.
You'll be expected to be in-office for the first few months while you're learning the features and functionality of the various systems. After you're comfortable handling most requests and can troubleshoot effectively, employees can work from home 1-2 days per week.
TO SUM UP:
We're looking for someone who:
  • Has a high aptitude for technology and learning new systems
  • Has customer service experience (1-3 years)
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to work in an office environment and answer calls/respond to emails M-F 8am-5pm
  • Professional demeanor, and excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Banking and/or Treasury experience is a plus
WHO WE ARE:
Mercantile Bank was born in 1997 by a group of West Michigan bankers with a goal to deliver financial solutions that empower people and businesses to achieve their dreams - all while bettering the lives of its employees and their communities. Since then, we have grown to over 40 locations, 5.25 billion in total assets, and nearly 700 employees. We're now the largest bank headquartered in Michigan and while we're proud of our growth, we are steadfast in remaining a community bank. We focus on relationships, building partnerships, and ensuring we don't lose the "small-bank" edge that makes us flexible, quick, and able to invest back into the community through our strong local ties. Our focus on technology and innovation has carried us through challenging times and is part of what makes us able to compete with the big guys.
Our success doesn't come by accident - our people show their integrity in every interaction. We believe in hiring people based on their character and teaching them the Mercantile specific skills they need to be successful. We firmly believe in developing our people and promoting from within whenever possible.

Our intentional efforts and investment in providing benefits, compensation, and a culture of continuous learning is why we're able to attract and retain incredible people from inside and outside the corporate banking industry. We hope you'll consider joining our team and making your personal and career goals come true.
