Mental Health Office is Hiring a Mental Health Program Specialist 2, Central Office Near Albany, NY

Candidates must be employed by New York State to be eligible to apply for this position.
Transfer:
Candidates must be permanent in the Mental Health Program Specialist 2 title and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
55b/c:
Individuals certified eligible for the 55b/c program under the Governor’s Program to Hire Persons/Veterans with Disabilities pursuant to Section 55b/c of the Civil Service Law will also be considered. In addition to a current 55b/c eligibility letter, candidates must must possess a Bachelor's or higher degree in child and family studies, counseling and community psychology, creative arts therapy, criminal justice, health administration, hospital administration, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling, nursing, psychoanalysis, psychology, public administration, public health, public policy, recreation therapy, rehabilitation counseling, social work, sociology, or special education AND and three years of professional clinical or administrative experience in a mental health program. Preferred candidates will be a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW).

Duties Description
The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill one Mental Health Program Specialist 2, Grade 23, to work as a member of the OMH State Operated Services team to support the Division of Social Work for OMH’s State Operated Services (SOPS). OMH’s SOPS oversees 19 State Operated Psychiatric Centers (PC’s) which includes providing services for child, adolescent, and adult inpatients, outpatients in OMH’s clinics & crisis services, and clients in OMH residential sites. The incumbent will work with Social Workers in the corrections-based operations and three Forensic facilities throughout the State of New York. Supervised by the Statewide Director of Social Work and the Medical Director for State Operated Services, the prospective candidate will serve as the coordinator of Social Work Projects for State Operated Programs. OMH is committed to providing recovery-oriented care, active treatment to clients, and ensuring that individuals thrive in the community. As such, the candidate should be motivated to advance the leadership, training and the direction of the Social Work Discipline throughout OMH.
Specific duties of the positions include, but are not limited to:
  • Working with the Social Work discipline to support social workers both clinically and administratively including Directors, supervisors and assistants, at OMH’s adult, children’s and forensic facilities.
  • Assist with coordination of meetings and other outreach to Social Work Supervisors to discuss statewide policy and practices and provide training and education.
  • Provide expert assistance and guidance to social work staff on the multidisciplinary and clinical teams, who conduct assessments and reviews of recipients of mental health services in both inpatient and community-based settings
  • Provide consultation and input related to the development of discharge and treatment plans for consumers who will be released to the community ensuring that they receive appropriate wrap around services
  • Coordinate social work initiatives in collaboration with other bureaus throughout the Office of Mental Health and with external agencies such as OASAS, NYS OFA and DOH.
  • Have knowledge around documentation needs and requirements for the social workers in our State Operated system and be able to provide guidance and feedback on said documents
