Mental Health Association is hiring immediately for a Housing Coordinator. MHA’s Housing Coordinator position is an opportunity to help change the lives of adults who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. By helping to obtain and maintain independent subsidized housing, you can help create a home base in the community for individuals who should be thriving in the best years of their lives, not just struggling to survive.

Working in our Permanent Supported Housing Program, you will not only help ensure access to safe, sustainable housing, you will instill these young individuals with the confidence and support they need to participate and have a voice in their community. Based in Hampden County, with your time split between the office and being out in the field, this is an engaging, rewarding job for an individual who is truly dedicated to making a difference in the community and the lives of young people in need. This is a Monday through Friday position that requires some flexibility for weekend hours.

Housing Coordinator Position’s Essential Functions

Support youth and young adults to:

• Gather necessary documentation to obtain housing.
• Find suitable housing by completing online applications and contacting landlords.
• Maintain housing through advocacy and mediation.
• Participate in services to support overall health and well-being by providing referrals and connections to mental health and/or substance use providers as necessary.
• Learn independent living skills by teaching and role modeling.
• Participate actively and make meaningful connections by volunteering in their community.
• Connect to primary care and physical/emotional wellness support for health-related issues.
• Achieve employment and education goals
• Obtain all appropriate meaningful benefits, including social security, SNAP, SSI and more.
• Achieve sustainable income through regular employment.

Additional functions:

• Complete documentation requirements including assessments, progress notes and data entry.
• Transport as needed.
• Complete thorough housing inspection to ensure safety and suitability.

Housing Coordinator Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Valid driver’s license, sufficient automobile insurance, acceptable driving record, and a safe reliable vehicle during working hours.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time, prioritize tasks, take initiative, follow through and work cooperatively as a member of a team.
• Good oral, written, computer and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to the changing needs of the program participants.
• Strong interpersonal skills, patience, caring and compassion.
• Must be able to pass and maintain certifications in medication administration (MAP), CPR and first aid.
• Must be at least eighteen years old.

Housing Coordinator Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Requires previous experience working with people with disabilities.
• Previous experience helping individuals obtain housing preferred.
• Bilingual preferred.
• Must be compassionate and empathic with a strong desire to help. Lived experience of homelessness is a bonus but not a requirement.

Housing Coordinator Physical Demands

While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers to handle, grasp, hold, type, write, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to kneel, climb stairs and lift up to forty pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include color distinction, visual inspection, visual perception, and eye/hand coordination.
