Humboldt Sawmill Company has Immediate job placement available for a Lead Electrician at our Scotia, CA Sawmill!

You will contribute to the overall function and performance of all onsite facilities. Sawmill and wood processing operations are highly dependent on automated processes, of which an Industrial Electrician is essential. Your job is to ensure quick turnaround in the event of component failure as well as planning and execution of maintenance tasks, site improvements, and machinery optimization related to the electrical trade.

  • Diagnose electrical faults, read blueprints, use diagnostic tools, and make decisions under pressure.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, project work, or corrective maintenance on electrical systems.
  • Performs, supervises, and records legally required tests; weekly, monthly, quarterly, semiannually, and annually.
  • Enforce all safety requirements for anyone working on or near electrical equipment.
  • Utilize appropriate tools to install and service electrical systems, observing company safety guidelines.
  • Documenting each project and updating records, providing material cost and time estimates.
  • Lead the training of apprentices.
  • Installing, repairing, and servicing electrical systems.
  • Sourcing or fabricating replacement electrical components.
  • Maintain electrical blueprints and line drawing when required.
  • Guiding and overseeing other apprentices or journeyman electricians.
  • Drawing up preventative maintenance measures and procedures.
  • Obtaining required permits, equipment, tools, and materials for projects.
  • Testing and troubleshooting systems.
  • PLC installation, programming and maintenance including AB PLC (potential for AB Control Logics).
  • Implement electrical safety standards as required by NFPA 70. (National Fire Protection association- National electric code).
  • Maintain and design operator interface screens.
  • Troubleshoot and set up VFD's.
  • Maintain and design Microsoft Access databases for data collection and reporting.
  • Specify substitute/replacement parts for failed or obsolete electrical equipment.
  • Utilize MS Excel or Access to document installed components and spares inventory.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic servo systems and feedback devices.
  • Prepare sketches documenting electrical wiring, component locations and control layouts.
  • Plan new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, or unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
  • Maintain 12kv power lines, transformers, and switch gears.
  • Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
  • Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels.
  • Test continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, megger, and oscilloscope.
  • Observe functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Ensure that all electrical construction and repair is completed consistent with company standards and NEC standards.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Master Electrician State Industrial and commercial License.
    • Or equivalent combination equaling 7,500 hours on the job training and 250 hours classroom time.
  • Demonstrated ability and knowledge of Programmable Logic Controller Software (PLC).
  • Demonstrates safe work practices including LOTO, Hot work permits & Equipment Operation with a strong working knowledge with OSHA safety codes.
  • Advanced math skills (algebra) to make calculations and apply general geometric concepts; and troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in commercial and industrial electrical system blueprints, maintenance, diagnostic tools and repair knowledge.
  • Ability to handle all types of tools and various mechanic systems, strong knowledge and understanding of belt systems, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
  • Patience when teaching apprentices.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of up-to-date commercial and industrial electrical codes and best practices.
  • Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement and/or Lean Manufacturing knowledge and experience is a plus
  • Must possess a valid California Drivers’ license and be eligible to operate a company vehicle under company policy guidelines.

Physical Requirements: 

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and communicate.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to smell.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration. 
  • The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • This position requires eye protection, hearing protection, leather or rubber gloves, safety shoes, and hard hat.
