Mendocino Forest Products (MFP) continues to expand its Ukiah, CA Sawmill Operations! We have an Immediate job placement available for Electricians at our Ukiah, CA Sawmill! 

The Electrician will be responsible to lead the electrician team in the Installation, maintenance, and repair of all sawmill machinery and equipment in a safe productive manner. Assists the maintenance supervisor in the design, fabrication, installation, service, repair, troubleshooting, and certification of all sawmill machinery, equipment, conveyor systems, lifts, cranes, and all associated sawmill material handling equipment.

The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Collectively providing 950 employees and their families with excellent wages and benefits in communities throughout the Western USA. Additionally, the Mendocino Companies own and operate a 25-megaWatt biomass cogeneration power plant and wood pellet plant.

Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required.   • Performs all Electrician duties as required.
  • Leads and provides work direction to others and ensures that workers follow company policies and proper procedures in all aspects of maintenance.
  • Assists maintenance supervisor in coordinating and working with the maintenance team to achieve objectives.
  • Troubleshoots more complicated electrical problems and provides technical direction and assigns work to electrician team and oversees their work for quality and timeliness.
  • Works in a safe productive manner in all capacities and assists in maintaining a safe and clean work environment
  • Tests, certifies, and documents that repairs are completed and properly installed for restart.
  • Design new MCC's
  • Troubleshoot and set up VFD's
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical control systems
  • Tracks parts inventory and orders parts as required.
  • Manages, performs, and repairs High Voltage equipment and power lines.
  • Performs all preventative maintenance and inspects all machines for wear and breakage.
  • Trains employees as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum five years of Industrial or commercial electrician experience in a Manufacturing environment.
    • Or equivalent combination equaling 4,000 hours on the job training and 250 hours classroom time.
  • Experience in the design and structure of a sawmill is preferred
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of PLC installation, programming, and maintenance.
  • Demonstrates safe work practices including LOTO, Hot work permits & Equipment Operation with a strong working knowledge with OSHA safety codes.
  • Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement and/or Lean Manufacturing knowledge and experience is a plus
  • Advanced math skills (algebra) to make calculations and apply general geometric concepts; and troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in diagnosing electrical faults, reading blueprints, and use of diagnostic tools to make correct decisions and determine work procedures.
  • Must possess a valid California Drivers’ license and be eligible to operate a company vehicle under company policy guidelines

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and communicate.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to smell.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration. 
  • The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • This position requires eye protection, hearing protection, leather or rubber gloves, safety shoes, and hard hat.
