Overview

Initiates, maintains, and discontinues basic and intensive respiratory therapy techniques and equipment in the administration of prescribed respiratory care procedures to patients with cardiopulmonary disorders.

Qualifications

Education:

Graduate of an approved AMA school of respiratory care is required.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

• Possesses a valid and active Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner license is required.
• Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care or registry eligible required.
• Current CPR certification or acquired within 30 days of hire.
• Must possess a valid IL driver’s license and must be deemed as an acceptable driver in accordance with the MHS Fleet Safety Policy (five year MVR will be required).

Experience:

One or more years of skill homecare experience preferred, including the care of tracheotomy and ventilator patients.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to provide respiratory care and therapy to patients of all ages and conditions, including ventilator dependent and tracheotomy patients is required.
• Ability to push and pull up to 60 pounds and occasionally lift up to 35 pounds is required.
• Possesses the knowledge of, or demonstrates the willingness to learn, Medicare coverage guidelines and basic reimbursement policies is required.
