Position Summary :

In collaboration with rigging and crating operations and project teams, advises and facilitates the safe handling and shipment of Hazmat and Dangerous Goods by utilizing specialized knowledge in Air and Ocean export for domestic and internal projects.

Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and expertise to provide top-notch results-oriented transportation services.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities :

• Complies with all established protocols to label, package, audit, and transport dangerous good / hazardous materials.
• Inspect hazardous material to ensure proper classification.
• Develops / maintains updated list of hazardous / dangerous goods and ensures compliance with all pertinent regulations.
• Release freight in accordance to packing with hazardous regulations.
• Ensures hazardous materials are transported safely and in compliance with regulations.
• Coordinates the loading of containers making sure materials are loaded correctly and containers are placarded correctly.
• Correspond with customers, warehouse, and regulatory organizations daily.
• Track shipments, identify and troubleshoot issues.
• Prepare, process, and verify paperwork / reports for projects related to Hazmat / Dangerous goods, including Bill of Lading, Manifest and Placards.
• Complete data entry within portal and appropriate systems.
• Serves as an expert on all laws and safety regulations regarding the handling and disposal of hazardous materials / dangerous goods.
• May train others on regulations, policies, and procedures related to Hazmat / Dangerous Goods.

Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education) :

• High School Diploma or equivalent required coupled with education, training, certification, and / or work experience in related field.
• Freight, logistics, shipping and receiving experience is required.
• Driver’s license is required.
• TSA clearance required or capable of receiving clearance.
• Expert knowledge of and / or training / certification related to Hazmat or dangerous goods laws, policies, and regulations, such as : DOT, OSHA, IATA, CAC, GSA, TSA.
• Warehouse management / inventory systems experience.
• Strong Interpersonal communication and Customer relationship Management skills.
• Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are required.

This is very physical, hands-on work. A Hazmat Specialist must be able to perform General Physical Activities activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of hazardous materials up to 50 pounds.

Frequent use of hands and fingers with good hand / eye coordination. Occasional work in a non-temperature-controlled environment and / or outdoors in all types of weather, and over uneven ground or terrain.

Capable / comfortable with handling and transferring hazardous materials between packages / drums.

Occasional use of materials that require Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as eyewear, gloves, breathing masks / devices to ensure safety related to avoiding skin contact, eye splash, breathing of harmful and / or pungent smells.
