Meg Hatfield Law is Hiring a Legal Assistant/Paralegal Near Marietta, GA

Come join a boutique firm in downtown Marietta, Georgia. Terrific opportunity to work in a progressive environment supporting two attorneys in Medical Malpractice and Personal Injury cases.

Duties:

  • Interacts with clients, witnesses and experts, communicating with professionalism, respectfulness and tact.
  • Drafts and edits documents, including discovery and pleading shells and correspondence.
  • Opens, scans and manages all incoming mail/email communication.
  • Opens new files, performs conflict checks.
  • Drafts acknowledgment or engagement letter/email to client.
  • Reviews expert and other invoices and routes for payment, tracks to completion.
  • Mails/emails/uploads letters, documents, and packages to various parties via Certified, Registered USPS, FedEx, courier service, or portal.
  • Properly files legal documents with the Courts and cc/bcc’s appropriate parties.
  • Organizes medical records and prepares expert packages, transfers appropriately.
  • Maintains organization of physical and electronic files.
  • Maintains accurate client information and updates as appropriate.
  • Maintains attorney calendars with due dates for answers, depositions and other pleadings, hearings, and trial calendars.
  • Closes and prepares files for storage.
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

Skills Required:

  • Understanding and application of legal terminology.
  • Ability to work efficiently and adhere to deadlines.
  • Strong grammatical skills to edit legal writing, and ability to format documents to conform with court rules.
  • Understanding of various legal documents for litigation practice: Requests for Production of Documents, Responses to Interrogatories, Certificates of Service, Motions and other pleadings in State Court, Federal Court, and Appellate Court.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency with or ability to learn Dropbox, CasePeer, Ciox, MRO, Nextiva, and Quickbooks.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in e-filing in the various e-filing platforms: Peach Court, Odyssey, Pacer, and Federal e-file.
  • Ability to manage cases with little or no assistance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organization, attention to detail, proofreading ability.
  • Ability to demonstrate impeccable integrity in confidential matters.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate with a diverse group of attorneys, staff, and clients and to provide or obtain information with ordinary courtesy, diplomacy and tact.
  • Accurate typing ability of 80 wpm and comprehensive computer and office equipment experience.
  • Work occasionally requires more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties.
  • Work requires sitting, bending, stooping, computer keyboarding and continuous use of hands, telephone contact, reading, and may require lifting of 25 lbs. or more.
  • Work may require traveling to offsite locations for collection of materials or filing of documents; therefore, work may require driving.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
