Position Overview

The Chief Academic Officer (CAO) plays a pivotal role implementing and advising on the academic vision and strategy for Meeting Street Schools. The CAO is responsible for the development, scoping, and sequencing of content, curriculum, assessments, and training for teachers and school leaders across five campuses. Furthermore, the CAO will be responsible to build and lead an academic team that supports the functions of the CAO. The CAO will report directly to the CEO.

Teaching and Learning Systems:

  • Collaborate with the CEO to set the vision and design of MSS’s student instructional experience, academic model, and approach to driving student learning
  • Build and facilitate the use of data systems, platforms, and tools that provide insight into school, educator, and student performance, including all student achievement data
  • Lead effective change management and progress monitoring processes to ensure that gaps between academic design and implementation are being closed and captured
  • Lead the development and/or selection of high-quality curricular materials and high-quality assessments designed to support student learning and improvement
  • Develop, design, and monitor the organization’s academic calendar, master schedules, training schedules, and all other aspects of logistics that facilitate teaching and learning
Continuous Improvement Systems:
  • Create and provide high-quality, effective professional learning experiences through multiple modalities and avenues to upskill teachers and leaders and improve instructional delivery across the organization
  • Create a system for feedback and continuous improvement from high achieving teachers and leaders to make instructional materials more user friendly and impactful
The ideal candidate will:

  • Be able to lead those who are both within and outside of their direct reporting lines
  • Demonstrate an ability to think strategically through complex problems
  • Be practical in their solutions
  • Drive outcomes for students through the educators at each campus
  • Have knowledge and experience in the design, integration, implementation, and management of a school or school system, including knowledge of curricula, instructional practices, school operations and management, and teacher and leader development
  • Showcase effectiveness in exceptional people leadership and management, including selection and hiring, coaching and development, managing and improving performance, building effective adult culture, and developing team members

Location: This position is located in South Carolina and is not a remote role. Network business is conducted in Charleston, SC. Travel across South Carolina is necessary. Three campuses are located in Charleston, SC, one is in Spartanburg, SC and one is in Jasper County, SC. 

Target start date: Spring/Summer 2023 

The salary for this position starts at $160,000 and is commensurate with experience.
