A Day in the Life

The Sr Sterile Reprocessing Consultant will be a key member of the Medtronic Robotics Surgical Technologies (RST) Customer Success and Field Service organization. This position will partner closely with our Sales, Marketing, Clinical Specialist, Robotic Program Managers and Training teams to develop, roll-out and maintain protocol used to process Hugo™ RAS Instruments and Accessories (I&A) into hospital Sterilization Processing Department (SPD).

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Act as the global expert for all current reprocessing standards and best practices, as they relate to Hugo Instrumentation.Design and maintain customer training programs for the SPD and OR staff on Hugo recommended cleaning, sterilization, and handling processes.Periodic site visits to monitor cleaning, sterilization processes to ensure they are following best practices as outlined in Medtronic documentation.Monitor returned equipment and mPXr data and work with accounts to implement correct actions.Quickly respond to internal and customer communications and complaints regarding cleaning, sterilization and handling of Hugo instruments and accessories.
  1. Needs Assessment and Solution Development:
    • Work with the customer-facing teams in the country or region to comprehend the requirements, assess the available information, identify the gaps and provide assistance in finding solutions.
    • Collaborate with hospital SPD teams to assess their specific needs and challenges related to I&A reprocessing.
    • Work closely with RST cross-functional teams to put a process in place to track the repair and replacement of Hugo instrumentation.
    • Identify opportunities for improvement and develop customized solutions to address identified needs, such as optimizing workflows, improving efficiency, or enhancing compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Work closely with SPD staff to implement and integrate tailored solutions into their existing processes and workflows. To apply standards to the reprocessing of reusable medical devices, including disassembly, cleaning, disinfection, checking, assembly, sterilization, dispatch, tracking, in a controlled environment.
  2. Process Optimization:
    • Evaluate current reprocessing processes and procedures within hospital SPDs to identify areas for optimization and efficiency improvement.
    • To apply standards to the reprocessing of reusable Hugo instruments including disassembly, cleaning, disinfection, checking, assembly, sterilization, dispatch & tracking in a controlled environment.
    • Provide guidance to the local team members in developing and implementing strategies in their accounts to streamline reprocessing workflows, minimize turnaround times, and maximize resource utilization.
    • Provide guidance and support to local/regional RST team members and hospital SPD staff on best practices for instrument reprocessing and sterilization.
    • Understand hospital reprocessing workflows for Hugo instruments and provide timely, practical solutions aligned with documented instructions.
    • Escalate customer feedback through appropriate channels as required.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on product design and development, and validation of reprocessing of Hugo Instrumentation.
    • Drive improvements to internal and customer-facing documentation.
    • Maintain thorough knowledge of regulations, standards, and guidance in sterilization and device reprocessing.
    • Remain current on all professional certifications and vendor credentials.

 

  1. Regulatory Compliance:
    • Stay informed about changes in regulations and guidelines related to medical device reprocessing and implement necessary updates to ensure compliance.
    • Implement, maintain, and evaluate quality process and standards in relation to sterile services department management and sterile equipment usage.
    • Ensure all validation testing is carried out in accordance with requirements and that records are maintained, and that appropriate action is taken if systems fail.
  2. Education and Training:
    • Collaborate with marketing team to build customer facing content on instruments cleaning and sterilization. Develop a book of knowledge for the customer-facing team members.
    • Identify training needs and update regularly as required.
    • Provide education and training to SPD staff on proper reprocessing techniques, infection control practices, and regulatory requirements.
    • Develop and deliver training programs tailored to the specific needs of each hospital SPD, ensuring that staff have the knowledge and skills necessary to perform their roles effectively.
    • Serve as a resource and mentor to regional Medtronic RST teams and SPD staff, offering guidance and support as needed to enhance their proficiency in I&A reprocessing.
  3. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Foster strong relationships with regional Medtronic team and hospital SPD leadership and staff, serving as a trusted advisor and resource for all reprocessing-related matters.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including infection control, nursing, and materials management, to ensure alignment and coordination of reprocessing activities with overall patient care goals.
    • Communicate regularly with hospital administrators and stakeholders to provide updates on reprocessing initiatives, performance metrics, and areas for improvement.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in healthcare industry management, with specific experience in medical device reprocessing and sterile processing techniques.
Nice to Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, nursing, biological sciences, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Certification in sterile processing (e.g., CBSPD, CHL (HSPA)) preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in healthcare industry management, with specific experience in medical device reprocessing and sterile processing techniques.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards governing medical device reprocessing.
  • Proficient in operating in an executive business environment and comprehending the business requirements of the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) and Operating Room (OR).
  • Experience and knowledge of OR protocol and central processing techniques and equipment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and oversee highly complex and strategic assignments involving multiple teams and individuals.
  • Understanding and knowledge of surgical instrumentation
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross functional global teams and stakeholders to achieve common goals.
  • Commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety and quality in medical device reprocessing.
  • This position is in the east coast of US and will be required to travel to global customers as necessary.
  • Travel: 50% of the time (local and international)

OTHERS:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and online collaborative tools such as Miro
  • Strong communication, analytical and presentation skills
