The Field Clinical Research Director is responsible for the strategic and operational management of the global Field Clinical Operations team – this includes planning, executing and implementing policies , procedures, practices within the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) portfolio. The Field Clinical Research Director is a member of the FCO Clinical leadership team and will work closely with leaders and personnel across the broader global, regional and functional organizations to achieve departmental objectives.

Responsibilities of the Field Clinical Director and their team include pre- and post-market clinical research. This position has direct responsibility for leading the European, Asia-Pacific, and part of the United States field clinical organization This position coordinates departmental planning including resource and budget allocations, manages experienced managers, and empowers multiple project teams, to ensure appropriate implementation of key business initiatives.

The Director role requires influential communication, strategic insight, and proven execution to consistently achieve business unit alignment on delivering clinical value and operational expectations.

A Day In The Life

Performs the following tasks independently:

  • Execution of all pre-market and post-market sponsored field clinical research activities
  • Ensures field study conduct meets all relevant regulatory requirements and is within ethical guidelines
  • Develops and coaches new and experienced managers through developmental plans, providing direction and support, and encouraging effective teamwork
  • Provides input to the development and implementation of global clinical research strategies, systems and programs in order to meet Medtronic CRM organization and corporate goals and objectives
  • Coordinates Annual Operations Planning (AOP) and department planning to ensure that the Field Clinical programs function optimally and within the budget
  • Partners with Clinical and business stakeholders to nominate investigators and clinical sites for study participation. May serve as management interface with clinical investigators and support funding negotiations with clinical sites when necessary. Guides team for efficient and timely negotiation of contracts with hospitals, consultants, clinical investigators, contract research organizations, and database management firms
  • Ensures that Field Clinical organization interfaces with key functional groups (R&D, Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, and International Clinical Groups) to drive clinical wide or cross-departmental initiatives
  • Provides management level representation during internal and external clinical investigation audits when needed
  • Maintains knowledge of industry trends and technological innovations pertaining to clinical research and champion integration of suitable innovations in CRM clinical portfolio
  • Regularly provides updates in oral or written format to senior staff members
  • Procures and oversees outside vendors and consultants, as required
  • Establishes and maintains a professional and credible image with key physicians, consultants, vendors, and co-workers
  • Actively works to promote team building and engagement within the department maintaining strong team culture rooted in inclusiveness, engagement, and belonging; strives for a high-performing team

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, biological sciences or related medical/scientific field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical and outcomes research experience with 7 years of managerial experience
  • Or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of clinical and outcomes research experience with 7 years of managerial experience.

  • In depth knowledge of healthcare industry and research environment
  • Knowledge of clinical and outcomes research study design, statistical methods, and clinical research study management
  • Proven ability to work in a matrix environment.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills, including ability to present work in a clear, confident and enthusiastic manner
  • Proficient knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Expertise with GCP and regulatory compliance guidelines for clinical trials.
  • Expertise in clinical research study design.
  • Advanced project management skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, including ability to interpret data and draw conclusions relevant to work
  • Strong track record of execution and delivery of results with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good computer skills (MS Office products, word processing, spreadsheets, internet, e-mail).

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.

Salary Min: $196,800 Salary Max: $295,200
