JOB DESCRIPTION
ENDOSCOPY TECHNICIAN

SUPERVISES: N/A

RESPONSIBLE AND The care and maintenance of all equipment,
ACCOUNTABLE FOR: instruments, and accessories.
General cleanliness, stocking, inventory of the
procedure and recovery areas.The rendering of
clinical care to MSCTP patients in the Center
under the supervision of the GI Tech Supervisor
and/or Nurse Administrator.
Making every effort to remain a flexible
cooperative and supportive member of the

MSCTP surgery team/office staff.
Acting as liaison between the physician and the

patient.

JOB EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:
➢ Minimum of two (2) years previous experience preferred
➢ Participation in ongoing continuing education
➢ Ability to deal compassionately, professionally, and courteously with patients, their families, physicians, and fellow MSCTP staff

TYPICAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
➢ Full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
➢ Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods of time. Some bending, lifting, and stooping required.
➢ Normal color perception and normal or corrected visual acuity.
➢ Hearing normal, or corrected to normal range.
➢ Manual dexterity to operative keyboard, calculator, and photocopier.
➢ Involvement with scheduling, management of information, physicians, staff, hospital personnel, and patients. Occasional high stress work may require dealing with angry, demanding patients and/or personnel.

JOB DESCRIPTION
ENDOSCOPY TECHNICIAN

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
➢ Safe and clean environment in an endoscopy center setting
➢ Exposure to communicable diseases
➢ Exposure to chemicals common to a clinical setting (e.g. formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde)

DUTIES AND TASKS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
1. Renders care to patients in the Center, under the supervision of the GI Tech

Supervisor and/or the Nurse Administrator.
2. Cares for and maintains all equipment, instruments, and accessories.
3. Cleans, stocks, and inventories the procedure rooms as well as the clinical area.
4. Assist physician during procedures.
5. In clinical area:

➢ Ensures the comfort and safety of each patient.
➢ Follows safety and infection control procedures.
➢ Prepares the procedure/recovery room for “patient readiness” before each case.
➢ Cleans, disinfects, sterilizes, and maintains all equipment, instruments, and accessories following standards outlined in the P&P manual.
➢ Documents and labels activated glutaraldehyde solutions and daily checks solution with test strip and record results for effectiveness of solution.
➢ Assesses the condition of all equipment, instruments, and accessories on a daily basis and reports any irregularities to the GI Tech Supervisor.
➢ Properly disposes of contaminated waste following Universal Precautions and

OSHA regulations.
➢ Coordinates rooms and scopes according to daily schedule.
➢ Assists the physician with endoscopic procedures.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Takes and records weight, blood pressure, pulse of MSCTP patient.
2. Lists patient’s medical allergies on red allergy sticker on the upper right-hand corner of the outside of the medical record.
3. Reviews allergies on each visit and records additions as necessary.
4. Ensures patient confidentiality by using privacy curtains and doors in each examining room.
5. Obtains diagnostic studies, (e.g., labs, x-rays, path reports, etc.), prior to visit and places same in front of medical record for physician’s review.
6. Provides instruction and information to patients as per physician’s orders recorded on medical record to include, but not limited to:
➢ Provides educational instructional materials to patients.
➢ Provides and reviews special diets.
➢ Prepares patients for diagnostic studies, and procedures by:

  • Completing lab requests.

7. Has working knowledge of insurance criteria as it pertains to where patient is required to have labs, x-rays, and other procedures performed.

8. Knows physician preferences and implements appropriately.
9. Properly disposes of contaminated waste following Universal Precautions and

OSHA regulations.
10. Documents all aspects of patient care according to the policies of MSCTP.
11. Files, checks medical records, performs pre/post procedure calls, assists with follow-up program when assigned, and when not involved in patient care.

1. Works well with GI Tech Supervisor, Nurse Administrator, and all others in position of authority.
2. Maintains cooperative working relationship with all MSCTP personnel.
3. Promotes a high degree of morale and spirit of motivation within the Center. This includes the degree of cooperation, communication and coordination between this function and other employees.

4. Demonstrates ability to tactfully handle difficult situations.

PLANNING AND TIME UTILIZATION:
Consistently shows ability to recognize and deal with priorities.

OTHER:
1. Maintains a well-groomed, appropriate appearance.
2. Maintains a clean, well-kept work area.
3. Maintains a continuing education record submitted to Nurse Administrator annually, which includes two (2) continuing education in-services per year.
4. Performs other duties as required by the GI Tech Supervisor and/or Nurse

Administrator.

The secondary focus of this position is to provide assistance with phones and front office duties to the clerical staff, as deemed necessary by the Nurse
Administrator in order to ensure operational efficiency of the Center at all times

All staff members assists secretary as necessary with incoming phone calls, pharmacy calls, filing, photocopying and retrieving charts, and any other clerical duties necessary to the operation of the Center, when not involved in patient care.
