About MedStar Georgetown’s Emergency Department
MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s Emergency Department is a Level Two Trauma. The Emergency Department is staffed and equipped to care for 36,000 patients a year presenting for emergency evaluation and treatment. An experienced nurse will assess and triage their care as they enter the department and ensure that thorough, consistent, high quality care is delivered to each patient. All of the nurses in the Emergency Department are certified in BLS, ACLS and PALS, but many also have their CEN, TNCC and ENPC certifications.
Leadership supports and encourages nurses to enhance their educational expertise and professional development. MedStar Georgetown’s Emergency Department prides itself on its collaborative governance and decision making which creates and implements new ideas centered on evidenced based practice. A team approach to staffing and assignments is a major initiative component that is embraced by the Emergency Department staff.
Schedule:
5 twelve-hour shifts per 6 week schedule.
3 of the shifts must be night or weekend shifts.
Schedule to work 1 summer holiday and 1 winter holiday.

Qualifications:

• EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing preferred.
• LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION: Current D.C. license as a Registered Professional Nurse upon hire; certification in Basic Life Support. Certification in specialty or related specialty preferred.
• EXPERIENCE: To meet unit criteria, at least two (2) years recent acute care experience in the relevant patient care area.
• SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to perform the nursing technologies. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to set priorities and work under stress.

Demonstrates advocacy and support on behalf of inter-professional teams and patients.
Delegates and supervises nursing staff in providing patient care and assumes leadership roles, e.g., charge nurse role. Participates in the development and implementation of quality activities.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Serves as a preceptor or mentor.
Participates in professional development activities.
Incorporates evidence-based practice and research into patient care delivery.
General Summary of Position
A nurse is responsible for providing competent professional nursing care using the nursing process. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.
