In this role, the laboratory assistant will perform a variety of waived Point of Care laboratory tests in the Emergency Room setting.

Job Duties :

Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards.

Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.

• Communicates results that require recollection, etc. to the licensed care giver in charge of the patient.
• Participates in proficiency testing surveys, conducts established quality control of procedures, evaluates results per established protocol, implements corrective action when indicated, and ensures accuracy of test results.

Recognizes problems and notifies Supervisor or In-charge Tech on duty.

• Performs blood collection via venipuncture or capillary methods, assuring proper technique is used at all times.
• Performs scheduled preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Consults with Pathologist, Supervisor, or In-charge Tech on duty on difficult tests, procedures, unusual problems and interpretations of same.

Demonstrates keen and accurate judgment to established testing procedures, to interpret test, assure accurate charting / recording, and in spotting inconsistencies and error.

• Maintains inventory supply, stocks and maintains neat, orderly work area.
• Trains new associates and / or students per protocol.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
