General Summary of Position About MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s Interventional Radiology MedStar Georgetown is currently seeking an Interventional Radiology Nurse to be responsible for patient assessment, intra-procedure care and sedation, and post-procedure follow-up of patients undergoing invasive procedures or sedation in the Department of Radiology. Benefits: Position Summary Responsible for patient assessment,pre and intra procedural care of patients undergoing invasive procedures orsedation in the Department of Radiology. This is accomplished according to an established plan ofcare, under the direction of the Director of Operations and Radiology NurseCoordinator in charge of Nursing who is a licensed Registered Nurse. These functions are performed in accordance with allapplicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital'sphilosophy, policies, procedures and standards. Minimum Qualifications Licenses and Certifications: Licenseas a Registered Nurse in the District of Columbia required. BLS required.ACLS required within 6 months, and PALS certification preferred. Experience: 1-2 Years experience required,preferable ICU, IR, ED, or PACU. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledgeof cardiac monitoring and arrhythmia recognition, invasive pressure monitoring,conscious sedation, emergency care, and comprehensive assessment skills,preferred.. 1.Provides pre-procedure telephone instruction and education to patients relating to their procedure. 2.Performs pre-procedure assessment, appropriate documentation of assessment, pre-procedure preparation of the patient, which includes intravenous access, review of allergies and laboratory results, application of monitoring equipment, and site preparation as indicated. 3.Monitoring is performed intra-procedure according to Radiology/Nursing policy to assess vital signs, pallor, responsiveness, level of comfort, emotional status Neuro status and circulation are assessed according to Radiology policy and as indicated by the procedure provides patient care utilizing the nursing process information related to changes in patient’s condition is relayed accurately and efficiently to the physician. Appropriate care and treatment are implemented acts as a patient advocate follows universal precautions. 4.Administers and titrating medications appropriately and in the correct increment dosages, knowing the pharmacological effects and side effects of the medications being administered. Assesses and documents the patient’s response to medications administered. Institutes appropriate treatment to medication induced changes in the patient’s condition. Administers emergency drugs and utilizes emergency equipment knowledgeably and appropriately. 5.Post-procedure care is arranged prior to procedure date unless the case is an add-on. Performs and documents an appropriate and complete post-procedure assessment. Gives a complete and concise report to the department receiving the patient post procedure. Discharge instructions and patient/family education are provided according to Radiology policy. 6.Performs daily equipment, drug and quality assurance checks as required by Radiology policy. Documentation is performed accordingly. Reports equipment failures and assures repairs are performed Arranges for replacement of expired or used supplies. 7.Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Performance Improvement and Research activities. 8.Participates in quality improvement initiatives. Recognizes cost reduction opportunities. 9.Supports unit and organization’s goals. 10.Exemplifies SPIRIT values, actively participates in Patient Safety Standards and tasks. 11.Serves as a preceptor or mentor as unit needs delegate. 12.Participates in educational programs. 13.Performs other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area. Our Interventional Radiology team offers the entire range of vascular, nonvascular and neurological image-guided procedures. For example, IR specialists can break up clots inside arteries, block off blood vessels that feed tumors, treat varicose veins, deliver cancer treatment directly to a tumor through its own blood supply, drain blocked organs, and perform biopsies—all by way of tiny incisions into which surgical instruments are navigated, under image guidance, to the target area. With advanced techniques and equipment and cutting-edge clinical trials, we are working to maximize patient safety and develop the next generation of treatments.
Education: Graduate ofan accredited School of Nursing required.
