JOB SUMMARY: The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for organizing and implementing direct and consult speech therapy services based upon each student's needs and individualized education program. The SLP will develop and write present levels of performances and IEP goals/objectives, as well as other documents/reports for each student who receives speech services. The SLP is also required to track services and progress for each student's IEP in an online database.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Creates and implements a speech program that is consistent with the school's educational philosophy and is compliant with speech services on each student's IEP.
  • Coordinates with teachers, administrators, and other related service providers in planning and developing the speech services program.
  • Prepares Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and participates in IEP meetings at minimum annually for each student who receives speech services and completes eligibility documentation as needed for students, but at least every three years.
  • Creates a speech therapy plan to ensure all students receive their required number of speech and language pathology services.
  • Develops and conducts in service programs for teachers and classroom paraprofessionals to address strategies that can be utilized to help students obtain their annual speech goals.
  • Maintains student portfolios with documentation that is relevant to each student's specific goals and maintains system for tracking student's progression toward speech goals.
  • Ability to use Special Education Data System (SEDS) for inputting, creating, and developing documents for IEPs and related meetings, as well as logging communication notes for documentation purposes.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
  • Master's degree (MA/MS) in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders.
  • Certification as a Speech Language Pathologist by the District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE).
  • At least 5 years of experience with 2 years working as a Speech Pathologist or Speech Pathologist Intern in a school setting.
SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:
  • Ability to communicate with a multi-disciplinary team regarding the needs of the children. Ability to communicate issues with parents and assist them in various stages of transition.
  • Ability to use SEDS for inputting, creating, and developing documents for IEP and related meetings, as well as logging communication notes for documentation purposes. Ability to write SMART IEP goals for annual reviews and reevaluations.
  • Ability to provide and maintain a clean driving record with a full, valid, local driver's license.
