Medstar provides full-time, academy style learning to prepare you for your job as an EMT. Our academy is held Monday-Friday, with three days of class on-line from your home, and two days each week in our training centers. From your first day in the academy, you will earn full-time wages.  After completing the Academy and EMT licensure, you move into full time employment with an immediate pay increase, as well as great healthcare and fringe benefits!

Qualifications to Enter the Academy

• 18-years-old or older by the time the Academy starts
• High school diploma or GED
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record
• Pass a background check and physical screening
• Provide immunization records and proof of Covid vaccination (required for clinical education setting.)

What career pathways are available at Medstar for EMTs?

EMTs work alongside first responders from police and fire departments, as well as doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. EMS is 24/7, and shifts are typically 12 hours. Many of our EMTs continue their careers at Medstar in roles such as paramedic, Critical Care Paramedic, Flight Paramedic, Instructor, Supervisor, Manager or Executive Leadership.
