MEDRVA Healthcare is Hiring a Registered Nurse First Assistant Near Richmond, VA

Description

MEDARVA Stony Point Surgery Center is currently hiring for a Registered Nurse First Assistant to deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation; and effectively interacts with patients, significant others, and other health team members while maintaining standards of professional nursing. Assists in the nursing care and preparation of the surgical patient by performance of routine and delegated duties according to the policies and standards of the Center. Assists the surgeon during surgery and performs wound closures. 

Requirements

  • Identifies and meets age appropriate needs of patients preparing an undergoing surgical intervention or laser procedures in the operating room, under various anesthesia modes. 
  • Assists with the administration of anesthetic intervention. 
  • Is cross-trained to function in more than one area within the facility as needed and shares responsibility for covering late cases. 
  • Provides technical, psychological support and education to patients, family member/significant other, physicians, ancillary staff members and peer. 
  • Completely documents required information using correct terminology, conforming to required style and format and complying with legal and accreditation guidelines both written and computerized. Submits documentation on time. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development, conducts age-appropriate assessment, provides age-appropriate care and recognizes age-specific responses to treatment.
  • Contributes and follows individualized plan of care based on the nursing diagnosis, standards of care and patient outcome. Organizes and assembles appropriate supplies and equipment and uses supplies and equipment properly. 
  • Carries out physician orders efficiently and appropriately. 
  • With scrub, performs sponge, needle and instrument counts when appropriate to surgery being performed. 
  • Mixes medications safely and accurately. Properly labels all syringes and medication/containers on and off sterile field. 
  • Practices principals and techniques of Universal Precautions. Makes use of PPE available. 

Surgical Assistant Functions: 

  • Maintain integrity of sterile field; drape patient within surgeon’s guidelines. 
  • Provide retraction of tissue and organs for optimal visualization with regard to tissue type and appropriate retraction instrument and/or technique. 
  • Assist in maintaining hemostasis by direct pressure, use and application of appropriate surgical instrument for the task, placement of ties, placement of suture ligatures, application of chemical hemostatic agents, or other measures as directed by the surgeon. 
  • Insert and remove Foley; place pneumatic tourniquet; use electrocautery mono and bi-polar. 
  • Clamp, ligate, and cut tissue per surgeon’s directive; insert draining tubes per surgeon’s directive. 
  • Close all wound layers (fascia, subcutaneous and skin) as per surgeon’s directive; select and apply wound dressings.
