Medical Mission Sisters is Hiring a Residential Support Staff Member (PT) Near Philadelphia, PA

POSITION SUMMARY:
To assist in maintaining a home environment for an aging population with varying levels of help needed. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Attending to personal care of sisters in their residences (Shalom and otherwise) upon request: assisting with bath, personal laundry, bed making.
  • Assisting in follow-up of physician visits (getting medications/equipment etc.)
  • Shopping for medical/personal needs of individual sisters on request.
  • Schedule and set up reoccurring on-site group appointments: hairdresser, podiatrist.
  • Ensures overall cleanliness of common areas, including refilling supplies (paper products, hand soap) and trash removal when necessary.
  • Assist with decluttering of general areas (basement, living room).
  • Assist with packing of personal items under direction of a Sister.
  • Schedule and carry out seasonal duties (air conditioning installation & removal request spring/fall, holiday decorating).
  • Keeps vacant bedrooms prepared for short & long term residents.
  • Assist with transportation for residential care Sisters for events on campus.
  • Provide assistance and support to the Wellness Activities Team, including transportation to activities when needed.
  • Working with Health Care Manager and Health Care Assistant in providing assistance with health issues that may arise, e.g. short illness and/or injury that are able to be cared for at home.
  • Preparation of funeral attire and packing up of personal items following death when requested.
  • Attends In-Service Training Sessions.
  • Other duties as may be assigned. 
  • Relates well with other staff and Sisters.
  • In all of the above strives to assure quality of care for the sisters.

  • Communicate courteously and effectively in person and on the telephone.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The job requires experience in working with a geriatric population and knowledge of the aging process. A certain comfort level with cognitive decline, chronic illness, hospice care and death are a necessary attribute. It asks for a person with interest in developing a home environment for women needing some assistance in daily living on the Sisters’ campus as well as assistance for those living in the residential care facilities off campus when necessary.
EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION OR FORMAL TRAINING QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Some clinical training or experience in personal care of the elderly would be an advantage.
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Physically able to lift, bend, stoop, climb and reach.
  • May need to lift, push, pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.
  • Requires a great deal of walking both indoors and outdoors.
