The Department of Medicine - Division of Cardiovascular Medicine is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients of the Cardiac Electrophysiology services in an inpatient/outpatient setting located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin at Froedtert Hospital, Froedtert Menomonee Falls & Specialty Clinics.

The Medical College of Wisconsin Arrhythmia Service consists of Cardiologists with special training and Board Certification in Cardiac Electrophysiology. Our physicians specialize exclusively in the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders including catheter ablation, pacemaker and defibrillator surgery, device lead extraction surgery and implantation of Watchman devices to reduce stroke risk in atrial fibrillation.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

The Ideal Candidate will bring prior experience in cardiovascular medicine or a strong willingness to learn about this subspecialty who also wants to be part of a thriving and very collaborative academic practice at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW).

In this role you will:

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring Medicine intervention in blended environment as a member of the Electrophysiology Team.
  • Independently seeing established patients in clinic and on the inpatient consult services which includes but is not limited to inpatient rounding, consults, discharges, H&Ps of patients prior to procedures or pre-op.
  • Perform DCCV.
  • Potential for at least 1 day/week for outreach at our community hospitals located in Menomonee Falls and West Bend.

Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information
  • Write accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders
  • Develop pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Monitor effectiveness of plan of care
  • Educate patients on disease and treatment plans.
  • Perform procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
  • Document within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  • Collaborate and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
  • Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.

Position Requirements:

Preferred Experience: Preference will be given to practitioners with core background in cardiovascular hospital-based care. Pacemaker and ICD programming skills desirable.
