Job Summary and Qualifications

Shift: Nights

The Registered Nurse delivers professional nursing care to population specific patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU). Follows the Board of Nursing’s (BON) Standards of Nursing Practice utilizing the nursing process in care delivery. Maintains accountability for professional decisions and actions within the parameters of their legal scope of practice and in accordance with the federal, state, and local laws; rules and regulations; and policies, procedures and guidelines of Medical City Healthcare (MCH).

This position requires knowledge of growth and developmental needs of critically ill neonatal patients. The registered nurse must recognize and respond to the behaviors of patients in the neonatal and newborn categories. Must be able to demonstrate the special skills required to care for patients and their families according to MCH’s expectations and standards. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience.

As part of our Division Float Pool West POD team, you will be lending your knowledge and experience to NICU departments within Medical City hospitals. You are required to be able to work at each of the following facilities for a 12 - week assignment, depending on facility needs. Those facilities are: MC Arlington, MC Alliance, MC Fort Worth, MC Las Colinas, MC North Hills, MC Decatur, and MC Weatherford.


What You Will Do In This Role:

  • Responsible for delivery of professional nursing care and treatment of the neonatal patient from birth to the continuum of care in the NICU assigned patients, performs nursing assessments/ care plan/ implementation of treatment/ evaluation of treatment/ and discharge planning.
  • Document nursing care in compliance with policies procedures and practices established by the Nursing Department and the hospitals.
  • Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and nursing standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.
  • Management of Level III Neonates (Mechanical Ventilation, Oxygen administration, Hemodynamic Monitoring, Administration of vasopressor drugs, Phototherapy, Hypoglycemia etc.).
  • Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Coordinates care with interdisciplinary team members and ancillary services.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Associate's Degree required, BSN preferred at time of hire. Must obtain BSN within 24 months of hire
  • Minimum 18 months experience within an acute care hospital required with a minimum of 1 year in specialty area
  • Level III or higher NICU experience required
  • Current State of TX RN license required, compact license is accepted
  • BLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support required at time of hire and issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross
  • NRP certification required within 90 days of hire or transfer
  • Specialty certification in High Risk Neonatal Nursing preferred
  • Professional Nursing Organization Membership strongly encouraged
