1. POSITION PURPOSE (Summary)
Under the general supervision of the laboratory director, the Medical Technologist performs laboratory procedures in a timely and accurate manner according to established hospital and departmental procedures.
2. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Associates Degree from an accredited MLT program. Mathematical, verbal, and working
skills at the College level (2 years). MLT certification preferred but not required.
Experience: Experience in a hospital setting preferred. Excellent customer relation skills.
Licenses/Certificates: ASCP or AMT certification preferred but not required
3. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Routine duties involve primarily laboratory-related conditions (phlebotomy, laboratory testing, and paperwork).
2. Daily functions may include incidental exposure to vapors, fumes, moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, chemical and biological hazards, patient contact, needles/syringes, waste handling, and computer use.
3. Most function requires use of personal protective gear such as gloves and fluid resistant coats. Sometimes masks and goggles are used.
4. Frequent contact with water (hand-washing and cleaning) and/or use of hand sanitizer.
5. Sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distractions and stress are frequent.
