SUMMARY

Consultants are responsible for providing one-on-one or group consulting in a supportive environment to students in all disciplines, in order to engage and empower them to become more competent academic and professional writers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSConsultants are responsible for providing one-on-one or group consulting in a supportive environment to students in all disciplines, in order to engage and empower them to become more competent academic and professional writersTeaching in a one-on-one setting is integral to the position, although there is no requirement for teaching beyond the duties of the Writing CenterPerforms other duties as assignedREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE / TRAINING

Master's Degree from an accredited college or university (English degrees preferred)Demonstrated writing consultation experience in a tutorial or instructional settingExperience working with community college studentsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

Possess working knowledge of writing concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to apply to varied situationsAbility to explain concepts to others effectivelyAbility to effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic successAbility to work comfortably with people from diverse backgroundsPossess patience and positive attitudes in establishing an encouraging learning environmentPossess strong organizational and time-management skillsPossess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to foster a team environment and work collaborativelyAbility to work accurately with great attention to detailPossess excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationshipsDemonstrated basic proficiency with Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivityPossess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse populationCOMPETENCIES
