Authorization Specialist

to join our team.

Authorization Specialist

is responsible for the completion of set processes and protocols. Works cooperatively with all members of the care team to support the vision and mission of the organization, deliver excellent customer service and adhere to Lean processes.

Monday through Thursday 8 : 00 am to 5 : 00pm, Friday 9 : 00 to 4 : 00 pm. Shift to be determined by the hiring manager upon hire.

  • Primary Responsibilities : Verify eligibility and obtain authorization from insurance companiesAbility to obtain authorizations for in office procedural injectionsAbility to obtain authorizations for MRI and Ct scansAbility to obtain authorizations for visco supplementationsFollow up on authorizations submittedAbility to follow up with patient messagingLoad or update insurance information as neededSchedule peer to peers for denied authorizationsSchedule appointments using approved scheduling guidelinesMonitor daily work queue lists, follow up on daily tasks;
  • conduct outreach to patients requiring appointments; contact patients who, "no show," for follow up appointments for surgical proceduresMonitor administrative tasks in the EHR and respond timelyScan and index documents into the EHR;

ensure that necessary documents, lab results, etc. are available in advance of patient visitsAssist coworkers as needed to assure smooth office operation and delivery of excellent service through teamworkDemonstrate respect for patients and Optum staff by presenting a friendly, courteous manner at all times and maintaining patient confidentialityPlanning and building the procedure schedules, and confirming the patients on the schedulesPerform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications : High School Diploma / GED (or higher)

Preferred Qualifications : 6 months of scheduling and obtaining authorizations for surgical procedures1 years of experience working in medical front office position performing duties such as scheduling appointments, checking patients in / out, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and maintaining medical recordsIntermediate level of computer proficiency (multi-task through multiple applications including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word)Experience working with an electronic health record

Soft Skills : Ability to work independently and maintain good judgment and accountabilityDemonstrated ability to work well with health care providersStrong organizational and time management skillsAbility to multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet all deadlinesAbility to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environmentExcellent verbal and written communication skills;

ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying information in a manner that others can understand, as well as ability to understand and interpret information from others

New York Residents Only : The salary range for New York residents is $16.00 to $28.27 per hour. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc.
