GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Head Cheerleading Coach shall be a person who teaches and supervises students outside the regularly scheduled class time. They will work with other students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community members to promote a successful and adequate school-life experience for young people under their charge. This assignment may require work beyond the regular school year.

The Head Cheerleading Coach is responsible for the comprehensive Cheer Program at their high school and supervises Assistant Cheerleading Coaches at that school.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The Head Cheerleading Coach is responsible to the building principal.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meets with the cheer squad regularly for practice, planning pep assemblies, and coordinating all weekly activities. 
  • Attends all athletic events as directed by the building principal.
  • Coordinates the cheering section and half-time entertainment as they affect the squad. 
  • Travels with the squad to all out-of-town games as the building principal requires. 
  • Makes transportation arrangements as necessary. 
  • Composes and submits all bulletins for daily announcements about cheer activities. 
  • Attends all pep assemblies. 
  • Handles all cheerleading finances. 
  • Arranges all travel accommodations. 
  • Writes all travel bulletins. 
  • Arranges assembly times with the Activity Director. 
  • Organizes and works with all cheerleaders during homecoming week. 
  • Organizes and conducts selections for next year's squad in the spring and/or the fall. 
  • Arranges the squad's training camp. 
  • Coordinates and is present at all fund-raising activities. 
  • Approves and assist with ordering and designing all uniforms. 
  • If responsible for inventories and uniform maintenance. 
  • Revises the handbook. 
  • Meets with parents to discuss expectations and responsibilities of being a cheerleading squad member.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: An individual must perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below represent the required knowledge, skill, and/or ability. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

MINIMUM SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

  • Guidance and counseling with children and adults.
  • Community resources and agencies.
  • Current techniques and procedures.

Skills:

  • Ability to work effectively with people.
  • Ability to handle details of the assignment. 

Attitudes:

  • Interest and enthusiasm for the assignment.

Experience:

  • Previous experience as a cheerleading coach is desirable.

Training:

  • Valid teaching certificate preferred.
